by Marc Silver

Insightful, emotional, lyrical ballads, and a rocked out arrangement on Lay Me Down. Songwriting inspired by the works of Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams, Joseph Arthur, Nick Drake etc. An interesting foray into song from a former jazz student.

Album Notes
For Marc, this record is a representation of transitioning styles from jazz and guitar studies to singer/songwriter. It finally combines his lifelong studies of the guitar with his endless journal writing and poetry. What you will find are insightful and emotional arrangements of lyrical ballads to a rocked out version of Lay Me Down.

Highlights on this record include: Pull In On The Reins, with its beautiful and descriptive landscape of love and loss, it is bound to bring a tear; My Last Breath has a beautiful female harmony part and solemn lyrical imagery like "to be without a dream's a knife buried in my knee, and a long walk anyway till my day in the grave"; Lay Me Down cranks out some great electric guitar work, killer trumpet harmonies, and driving drums sure to make you want to start again from the beginning; Linger is a beautiful song of departure that captures the grateful spirit of rather having loved and lost, than not ever loved at all (secret is it is about breaking up with a band... not a relationship); It's You is a short and sweet love song that has been a popular choice for many wedding ceremonies; and finally the title track, Stonethrowers, which embodied the ball and chain struggles Marc felt as the wars with inequality and religious intolerance raged in the Bush/Cheney years.

Melding content with exceptional chord combinations warrant repeated plays.
Marc’s new CD is so comfortable. I keep playing it over and over. The lyrics and music stays with you for a long time after you leave the CD player. Hearing the chord combinations along with the rhythm and pace took me somewhere similar to the great emotions in Beck’s SEA CHANGE, especially the cuts: End of the Day, and Lost Cause.

The poetic lines throughout STONETHROWERS hit me as hard as those metaphors laced in the words What is the color of black when its burnt? in Neil Young’s I am a Child or in Young’s metaphoric instrumental section of Ride My Lama.

The following lyrics:

As I lie here
on the floor,
broken down and/in shattered
Push Comes to Shove

So I could know the present
In the way I know it now.
Pull in on the Reins

are only a couple of the many Marc Silver provides in Stonethrowers that give you a pause of time.

I LOVE this CD!!!
I LOVE this CD. Marc Silver's voice is very unique and captivating. It's rare that I find a CD that I like immediately. I was happily surprised with this one. I had heard parts of a few songs on Marc's website. When I played the CD the first time, I liked every song. My favorites are Stonethrower, Nectar Sweet and Rare, Linger, It's You. I could list the entire CD. I enjoy the acoustic guitar and this has that in every song. I've had the CD for over a week now and have played it over 10 times all the way through. I like it! I look forward to new music from Marc and his band.
