ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ever wonder what happens when a Turkish-born, classically-trained pianist joins forces with an award-winning Americana folk artist? In the case of Mare Wakefield and Nomad, the answer is “beautiful music.”

Mare -- pronounced “Mary” -- grew up in Texas and was influenced by the alt-country sounds coming out of the Lone Star State. She’s released five studio albums, and her skill as a performing songwriter has been recognized by prestigious organizations like the International Songwriting Competition and the Great American Song Contest.

Nomad’s musical education began at the Istanbul State Conservatory, and he carries a full arsenal of classical and jazz chops at his piano-playing fingertips. In addition to working with Mare, the versatile pianist and composer has designed sound for film and TV, and had pieces performed by symphony orchestras and in Boston’s legendary Fenway Park.

The pair met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, and married soon after. They’ve performed together for nine years, but Poet on the Moon marks their first duo release. A successfully funded Kickstarter campaign enabled them to hire Grammy-awarded producer Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay). “Mitch drew out the best in us,” Nomad says. “Working with him was a real honor; he helped us solidify our duo sound”

“This record is special,” Mare agrees. “Nomad and I have become true musical partners – it was definitely time to put his name on the album cover!”
