ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
These songs and tunes are favorites, some well known and some rarely heard, collected over decades of exploring music that is close to the human experience and the life of the spirit. They range from a 13th-century Galician love song to Leonard Cohen, from a Shaker hymn to Judy Collins, from an Irish lullaby to a pentatonic improvisation. Some have been passed down by musicians and collectors through centuries. Some are recently composed. Many are Margot's own compositions, written to accompany stories or just for fun. All are offered with the hope that in this music you will find moments of enjoyment and times of peace.

Margot wrote her first compositions at age 9 and played piano throughout childhood. She joined an early music group where she was introduced to the harp, later becoming fascinated with Celtic and traditional music. She accompanies storyteller Diane Edgecomb and has played for many years for staff, patients, and their families at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Comments about her playing: "Your playing was breathtakingly beautiful--the highlight of that evening." "Exquisite accompaniment...evocative music." "You play from your soul." "Absolutely beautiful...it's always such a joy when I come on the unit and hear the harp." "I feel better since you came--you changed the mood."
