ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Maria Dunn describes herself as a storyteller through song. Melding North American folk music with the influences of her Scottish-Irish heritage, she draws inspiration from the resilience and hope of “ordinary” people, as on her critically acclaimed 2004 release We Were Good People. Her fourth CD, The Peddler (September 2008), features 10 of Maria’s songs largely inspired by her love of Celtic music. Produced by Shannon Johnson (2007 Juno Award with The McDades for Bloom; 2002 Juno Nomination for Maria’s For A Song) with arrangements by Maria Dunn and The McDades (www.themcdades.com).

Maria performs at theatres and festivals in Canada, the USA (e.g., 2006 Smithsonian Folk Life Festival, Washington, DC) and Europe (2008 Celtic Connections, Scotland; Netherlands tour).

“An appealing set featuring songs…brought to life with warmth, immediacy and assurance.“ The Scotsman (Glasgow Celtic Connections, 2008)

“…a true preserver of the spirit of folk music.” Sanctuary Concerts, NJ

\"An arrestingly powerful singer-songwriter from Canada who writes great historical and social commentary.\" - Rich Warren, The Midnight Special, WFMT Chicago

\"She combines the storytelling of James Keelaghan with David Francey\'s ear for melodies that fit seamlessly into the tradition.\" - Dugg Simpson, Vancouver Folk Festival

\"…remarkable singer-songwriter, think of her as a distaff Woody Guthrie.\" - Mike Ross, Edmonton Sun
