ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Music has been such a vital part of Marie’s life from a very early age. She began studying piano at the age of 5 and added organ to her studies at the age of seven. By the age of 9 she had become a church organist. She always held a fascination for the harp believing it to be the closest instrument to God’s heart. After all, David played the harp and he was a man after God’s own heart! During her early teen years she added the clarinet to her list of musical studies but the harp was not to be introduced for many, many years.

She graduated from Samford University with a BS degree in Elementary Education and a minor in music. She married the love of her life, Tyler Barnes, shortly after graduation. As she began a new role as wife and teacher, she pursued her love of music by continuing as a church organist and teaching classroom music. After a few years, God blessed their home with a precious baby girl, Amy. Marie decided to trade in her full-time jobs of teacher and organist for a new fulltime position of being a mother. She still continued to play for weddings and to do interim fill-ins but she did not take another full-time position until her family was completed. As her family grew with two additional blessings, Marie wondered if her childhood dream of playing the harp would ever come into fruition. God’s timing is always perfect----He is never late! What was He waiting for? It was soon made clear! The reason for God’s delay was to allow Marie the time needed to complete her family and to make the availability of the perfect teacher, Katherine Newman. Marie met Kathy while playing in an orchestra for a church cantata. Kathy was playing the harp while Marie was playing the clarinet. It was a match made in Heaven! After managing to cross many small hurdles such as distance, time and money, Marie was able to study privately in LaGrange, Georgia with Kathy. It was a distance of 2 ½ hours one way, requiring Marie to leave her home at 4:30 a.m. for lessons. Marie continued her job as a church organist while she studied harp. It was quite a challenge driving the 5 hour round trip to LaGrange while balancing her practice time and the maternal duties involved with three young children. It had been such a dream come true that the challenges seemed more like labors of love.

Marie’s husband and children were very supportive of her dream to become a harpist. Her husband even bought her a video camera so she could record her lessons each time and review what she had learned. Marie’s love of music is amplified through her faith and love for God. By using her harp as a focal point, God has given her numerous opportunities to witness to the audiences for which she plays. She will never forget how God made her childhood dream come true as she continues to praise and honor Him through her music. “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your Heart.” Psalms 37:4

Marie is a performer, composer, arranger and has been playing harp for over 23 years. She has played for more than 1,500 weddings, hundreds of corporate events including 2 governors of the State of Alabama, many church concerts and orchestral musicals as well as many women’s ministry events. Marie has just finished her first CD project – “To Thine Be The Glory”, a compilation of hymns she has arranged. The CD includes harp, piano, synthesized strings, cello, flute and oboe. Marie’s desire is that this CD project will bless those who hear the music and bring each listener closer to Jesus Christ our Lord.

I have played this CD at least once each day since I first received it. It is calming, soothing, and relaxing. Somehow, it seems to wash away the day\'s stresses and leave you more spiritually awake. In the last 23 years, I have heard Marie play often and for many different venues. She is amazingly talented, with the harp, of course, but even more with music in general. She touches the keyboards, and her clarinet and her flute and her cello with the same ease and skill that she tunes her harp. Music seems to bubble up from somewhere deep inside of her, a fountain of hope and balm and peace for all who listen, but even more her gift to Heaven each time she plays. She told me once she heard in colors rather than sounds and I have tried to imagine how that could feel to grasp the sounds and notes the way the rest of us pick flowers or gaze at sunsets or look at any beautiful, artistic
thing. Sadly, I cannot experience that but I can imagine it is glorious. Music is her great gift and we are blessed that she has chosen to share it with us. I look forward to hearing her next offering...with longing and anticipation.

I have played this CD at least once every day since I first received it. It is soothing, calming, and seems to wash away all of the day\'s stressors leaving you more spiritually awake. I have listened to Marie play many times at churches, concerts and weddings. Whether she is playing by herself or with a symphony, her music seems to transport you outside of yourself. The music bubbles up inside Marie, and, as a fountain brings cool water, her music brings a healing, and a peaceful place to renew yourself. Perhaps it is because she feels her music so much that she can communicate that so simply. She told me once that she hears music in colors, the way the rest of us see a budding flower, or view a sunset or are awed by studying any remarkable and beautiful artistic thing. Sadly, I cannot completely understand that concept. But, I can experience some small portion of that feeling by listening to her music. I look forward to hearing her next offering, with great anticipation. We are all blessed that she has last last entered this medium to share her music.

To Thine Be The Glory
I have throughly enjoyed working on this project. I have wanted to do a CD for many years but it has taken me this long to convince Marie that the talent that God has given her should be shared. It is my hope and desire that who ever listens to this music will be blessed and drawn closer to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To Thine be the Glory
The first time I heard Marie Barnes playing the harp, I thought I was in Heaven. I wanted so much to have a copy of this sweet music. That was 10 yrs ago and I am thrilled that I now have my very own CD \"To Thine Be The Glory\". As I listen to these songs that are so soothing to my soul, I know that God has blessed me beyond measure. He gave me ears to hear the sweetest sounds. He gave me His Word to confirm that even in a troubled world, it is well with my soul, that Jesus did pay it all, that His grace is amazing and how truely great He is to those who love Him. Thank you Marie for making this CD to encourage and lift us up. Thank you for sharing your annointed talent. May God richly bless you!!!

To Thine Be the Glory
I have listened to this CD at least once a day since I received it. It is soothing and calming and spirits you to another plane of experience and peace. I have heard Marie play so many times in the last 23 years, I have lost count. Yet, each concert or performance is a new experience and a new musical discovery. Music truly feels Marie\'s soul and bubbles up from somewhere deep inside her very being, like a well of balm and hope and faith offered to all those listen, and as her special gift to Heaven each time she plays. I have listened to her music evolve and stretch and grow, a living thing, never content to be as good as yesterday, but always reaching for some new avenue of expression. Publishing this CD has long been a goal for Marie and for Tyler, her husband. The realization of that goal is an exceptional accomplishment. I look forward to their next offering with great anticipation.
