Album Notes
"How Brightly Beams"

"How Brightly Beams" is an offering of beautifully crafted songs that come from a spiritual core, yet contain all the rich juiciness of life, with striking melodies and sensual vocals. Though several selections are based on scripture, these are songs that bridge the gap between religions, expressing the wonder of a creation which requires our total response. Exposed music that lays the heart open.

"The passion and beauty in your voice curls my toes. Awesome work!"
Allen Foster, Editor, Songwriter's Monthly

"Mariénne's music takes me from tears to laughter. She is a creative genius who passionately lives her mission."
Rev. Anne Sermons Gillis, author of "Offbeat Prayers For The Modern Mystic"

"I start my work day off every morning listening to your CD, sometimes three or four times. Your message and melody inspires me and helps to bring balance into my office and work day. I love your music!"
Chris Bennett, Rosenbluth International, North America Project Coordinator

"'How Brightly Beams" changed my entire morning. Your music truly touches a part of me that needs touching and nurturing. Thank you for your clear, beautiful voice, incredible imagination and creativity. The haunting dances of the flute and the cello are still with me.

beautiful acoustic reality.

Fourteen refreshingly unusual, yet accessible tracks. A strong clear voice...ex
Mariénne Kreitlow is an American singer/songwriter who also plays keyboards, flute and guitar beautifully. She has quite a range to her voice, which at times reminded me of Joni Mitchell. A diverse range of instruments is played, all excellently, using subtle arrangements which fully enhance the meaning of the songs.

melodic richness and thoughtful lyrics
A quiet mood prevails throughout, but it is full of both melodic richness and thoughtful lyrics that need to be read and pondered as well as heard.  Marienne is an understated instrumentalist, especially in her restrained but lovely piano work, where each note falls just right.  The songs feature a good bit of paraphrases from both Jewish and Christian Scripture; Marienne succeeds in making these texts as personal as her original lyrics.  As for the latter, the line “Clearly we were meant to be both of earth and heaven” should go straight into a book of timeless quotations!

“How Brightly Beams” – the cascading flute and high piano that introduce this serenely joyful song seem to set the mood for most of the recording.

“Blessed” – a moving treatment of the Beatitudes, to a tune that Ernest Bloch would have been proud of.

“I Will Lift My Eyes” – this Psalm rejoices quietly in a contemplative Middle Eastern mode.

“Trust in the Lord” – background chorus chanting in Hebrew provides counterpoint to this energetic bit from Proverbs.

“Bandaged” – someone battered by life pleads for light and peace, and has clearly found a comforter (who may be both human and divine).

“If You Were in Love With Yourself” – an endearing Pooh-Bear flavor permeates the lyric of this delightful waltz-song, gently humorous but reaching a poignant conclusion.

“I Want to Love God” – bluesy, jazzy explorations (great piano and mellow sax!) support frequently startling lines; lyrically, this may be the most powerful song here.

“North Woods Song” – in utter contrast to all that’s gone before, a smooth Celtic-flavored tune and a paean to a northern landscape.

You music is art in a pure a great diamond...
I think your music is art in a pure state, like a great diamond artistically modified to be understood and esteemed. The diamond doesn't stop being part of the essence of the nature! Your music represents the hope that many inhabitants of the planet maintain; an art and culture respecting our differences. Played with technique and feeling.
