‘Marike’s playing and composing has been an evolutionary delight. Her growth in concept and craftmanship have given us innovation and individuality. Marike has a passion for style and development that will enlighten us for years to come.’ -Dick Oatts-

‘Marike Van Dijk has recorded lyrical and compelling tunes on her first outing. She plays with determination and a beautiful sound on all her horns. This music has a nice feel and shape to it. Well worth the listen!’
-Bob Mintzer-

'The songtitles on this album are all based on memories and moments I somehow associate with my music.
While I was writing 'Jean Jacques', the images of Jacques Cousteau's underwaterworld documentaries came to mind. As a kid I loved to watch these documentaries on sunday mornings. I was fascinated by the beautiful images of oceanlife coupled with Cousteau's english voice-over with a very heavy french accent. I now realize that the accompanying music in the documentaries must have been imprinted in my mind as so many other sounds were throughout my life.

No rooms!! was written after yet another episode of 'Marike's endless quest for available practice rooms'. Fortunately this episode came to a staggering halt resulting in this tune.

The months I spent in New York were some of the most inspiring; everytime I walked out the door onto Riverside drive I could feel the tremendous energy of the city. Being in the city and looking over the Hudson everyday was a great incentive to write 'Riverside Drive'.

I hope this album is only the first of many to come, but for now enjoy 'Patches of Blue'.
Imagine cloudy dutch skies and looking for patches of blue; Imagine sitting in a train and dreaming away; Imagine.'
-Marike van Dijk
