Marilyn wrote these songs at a critical time in life. These are tunes from a mature woman who has experienced loss and much hurt, has watched the pain of others helplessly and worries about the future of the earth---- yet believes that 'life ...finds a way'. 'What's On My Mind' was written several years ago, but getting into the studio proved challenging.
Marilyn met all the musicians at various times over these past few years. Aaron Martin used to perform as a young man at a local open mic when she first noticed him. His own music is strongly based in the blues, and he is a killer guitar player. Here, however, he plays the bass-- with great style.
Peter T first started collaborating with Marilyn when she ran an open song circle in several venues in Hudson, NY. His playing here shows his excellent taste. He also works with a swing band when not keeping the beat for Marilyn and friends.
Mike Pagnani first played fiddle with Marilyn many years ago, again at an open mic, and before they knew each other (it happens a lot like that with Marilyn and her friends). They work together in Beer-Stained Fiddle and Hudson Busk. Recently, they figured out that they sing well together, also. You will hear that on this record.
And finally, Marilyns most frequent musical partner is Rick Warren, who also plays with many local bands like Slink Moss and the Magic Stones as well as his own soundscape compositions. Playing most often live as 'Rick and Marilyn', this duo is the core of this record. Marilyn likes to say that Rick 'Tells the rest of the story on his guitar'.
