ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Composed by Marilyn Power Scott since 2000, some of these 30 short, but not necessarily simple, works are prayers in a universal way; some are off-beat love songs or address some aspect of healing, and a couple are just plain fun. Some give voice to feelings and experiences not often sung about.

There is a deep spirituality present, not connected to a particular body of belief, providing a bridge between traditions. The songs are finding their way into personal spiritual practice as well as the repertoire of choral groups, particularly the Threshold Choir, with which Scott is closely associated.

For those who would like to learn Scott’s songs, each is sung in unison before the harmonies begin, and lyrics are included in the accompanying booklet.

The album was recorded in central California’s old Spanish Mission of San Antonio de Padua, a serene enclave with crystalline acoustics in its sanctuary. The 24 women of the ensemble were gathered from the length of California and beyond. At the end of the final recording session, completely unplanned and unrehearsed, the ensemble sang the extraordinary, “Kinder,” by Alyx Benham of Copper Wimmin, in an outpouring of gratitude and release. She graciously agreed to its inclusion on the CD.

The love that permeated the recording experience is audible. One listener says, “Scott has made us a house of music to live in.”
