Album Notes
With Innocent Of Nothing, Marilyn Scott’s beautiful and beguiling new Prana Entertainment release, this gloriously gifted vocalist, songwriter and musical stylist par excellence has fashioned a stunning collection of ten tracks that manages to sound at the same time fresh and familiar, instantlyrecognizable and utterly unique. Embarking on a trademark blend of jazz accents, blues intensity and pure passionate soul, this CD also takes Marilyn into some thrilling new sonic realms, with original songs and inspired covers (Dylan, Monk) that speak directly to the hopes and fears, the wisdom and folly, of contemporary life. The result is one of the most evocative and elegant offerings on the artist’s extraordinary recording career. This CD also features the talents of George Duke (producer, keyboards); Jimmy Haslip (bass) and Russell Ferrante (keyboards) from the Yellowjackets, Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Brian Bromberg (upright bass), as well as many other wonderful musicians. It should be noted that 2005 saw Marilyn enjoy the distinct honor of having two separate albums charting on the Billboard Jazz Charts – her career retrospective compilation CD, Handpicked, on Contemporary Jazz and her last studio record, Nightcap, on Traditional Jazz. Marilyn is the only vocalist in Billboard chart history to accomplish this feat.
