Album Notes
‘the marimba belles’ is a dynamic ensemble of middle-school age (10 – 13yo) percussionists who play concert xylophones, marimbas, vibraphones and glockenspiels. The group performs complex three, four and five part tunes such as The Lord of the Dance, Rondo alla Turca, The Entertainer, Mamma Mia, Axel F, Hungarian Dance no.5, celtic jigs and reels and the BEST version of "Greensleeves" you will ever hear, complete with renaissance variations by Francis Cutting, circa 1690,and of course, The Teddy Bears Picnic arranged for six instruments.

‘the marimba belles’ come from an extension program at Boronia Heights Primary School in Melbourne. Students enter the program by way of audition and commit to frequent rehearsals throughout the school week. They also borrow instruments on weekends and school holidays for extra practice.

Over the past two decades ‘the marimba belles’ have performed with great success and acclaim at eisteddfods, on radio and TV, at music festivals, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival in 1996; fundraising concerts and at other schools. In 2006 the group undertook a week-long tour of schools in the Warrnambool district, performing seven concerts in three days.

The group plays with incredible energy, enthusiasm and accuracy. There is great synergy, unusual amongst students of this age. The sound of the CD is refreshing and delightful. Please listen to 'the marimba belles' and enjoy. We believe that this ensemble's interpretations are unique, as searches on the net fail to find other ensembles with "the belles" style.

Recording Values. The album has been recorded with much loving care. Balance of instrument volume levels has been of paramount importance to Graham[ one of the teachers] who has been invoved in recording since 1959.. when "stereo" first appeared. Much attention has been given to detail: clarity; realism; sonic truth; and creating an ambience second to none. The REAL CD, the one you can put in a cabinet,is just stunning having been re-mastered with newer technology. Clear and three dimensional.

Artists of Tomorrow

These children have a promising future.
I have listened to the sound bites quite a few times, and I feel that the artists recorded are exceedingly good for their age, indeed any age. A thoroughly interesting and entertaining album. Budding young musicians could learn a lesson from these performances.

Congratuulations girls! i saw you preform in 2005, it's great to see that the band is still togther! you have improved so much from what i can hear. i could go on forever on how much i love your music but i'll spit it out quickly, well done, great music, keep up the good work and lets hope you girls stay togther for years to come. i would also like to say that your music teachers are really great for keeping you all together, well done to you both, keep learning new songs! you girls ROCK!

Born to sing.
I'm not a "marimba belle" but I see these kids practising all the time. They are loved in the community, and have a lot of respect as do their teachers. I don't quite believe it when they play with such dexterity; and they are so cool about it. Much funding for their tours comes from local, state and federal politicians. They have another website and all you need to do is "google them. I love ya' belles and beaus. Brooke.

Fabulous... cool.
Well, What can I say girls? You say you're an ensemble, but in the classical pieces, you sound like a marimba and vibes orchestra. A unique sound. I haven't heard this concept before. Your popular and celtic music absolutely swings and is very authentic. What maturity!

The real deal!
The standard that these girls play at is nothing short of phenomenal. And all of the enthusiasm and skill you hear on this CD comes out of kids doing what they do best - having fun! If you have the privilege of seeing this group live (as I have), you will not be disappointed as the standard is as high as you hear on the CD. Well done Belles, and keep on playing :)

Graham and Adrian and the marimba belles
This is not a review per se. We are notifying anyone who is interested in a CD that the bushfires in Australia have held up production of CDs in the short term. Until the studio is secure...more hot weather to come...the album will be delayed. Rest assured, the newer copies have been re-mastered and sound better than ever.
Thanks for your patience

Adrian , Graham and "the marimba belles"
