Album Notes
"hauntingly beautiful" ~ L.A. Times
"inspirational lyrics & a soaring voice" ~ Music Connection
"the voice of an angel" ~ The Prague Post
"timeless quality and ethereal beauty" ~ Las Vegas City Life

The CD booklet includes lyrics to "Father" & "Unbalanced" + exclusive pictures from the recording session, as well as Marina's stories & in-between song banter.

The entire CD was recorded live at SoundMoves Recording Studios in Sun Valley, CA, on July 15, 2006, in front of some of Marina's most devoted fans. The advance tickets were sold out almost instantly, and fifty fans lounged on pillows in the live room of the recording studio as Marina performed 12 fan favorites - some performed solo and some accompanied by her band. For most fans, it was their first time in a recording studio, allowing them to get up close and be a part of the magic.
By attending the event, fans also helped sponsor the Live Recording. Among other sponsors were Audix Microphones and Digital Cafe Tour. A DVD of the live session is in the works.

The album opens with the upbeat "I'll Be Alright" and "In My Head", followed by the exquisite partially-acoustic version of "Killing My Dream". Marina's charmingly witty introduction of "Pesnya O Tebe", the only track in Russian, gets the audience giggling, and then Marina tells the story behind "Unbalanced", an upbeat and bouncy new song about trying to figure out your place in this world. Cole Coleman's guitars range from dreamy and ethereal to crunchy and driving on this one.
For "Ocean", the moody and soothing song originally recorded for the singer's 2003 release "Something Of My Own", the band leaves Marina at her piano, with Nick Baker, her long-time co-writer, accompanying her on the acoustic guitar. Then Nick too leaves the stage, and Marina performs "Father", an achingly-beautiful ballad about the father-daughter bond that could have been.
On "That's The Way It Goes", the fun little ditty about a day in one busy L.A. life, Marina surprises fans with a little tribute to her favorite "Western" songwriter (you will have to hear the story for this one). For "When I Come Home", Marina & Nick perform together, and Marina gets to showcase her crystal-clear yet very strong voice.
The band returns to perform "Underneath Your Sky", a love song with a huge crescendo in the bridge and an especially powerful final chorus, where Marina sings "Underneath Your Sky" a cappella, and the band comes in, with Shannon Hurley's keyboards channeling an entire orchestra.
Marina tells the story behind "Something of My Own", and the band performs the electrifying song with Ben Eisen's bouncy bass groovin' throughout. Near the end, the band stops and Marina tenderly sings in Russian, accompanied by just a few piano notes, sending goose bumps through the audience.
With the audience not yet ready to let her go, Marina announces that she has one more song for them, and applause erupts. This encore is a breathtaking cover of The Beatles' "Here There, and Everywhere," a delicate and stunning tribute to Marina's biggest influence.

An outstanding recording by an outstanding artist.

one of the most beautiful voices on the planet
L.A.-based Marina V makes a big point of marketing herself as a Russian-born singer-songwriter. While it's understandable that an unknown musician will use every possible angle to gain attention, the strength of the songs and the virtuosic singing she displays on her first album ought to provide her the kind of rep that lets her move beyond the gimmickry of touting her birthplace.

Like a more accessible, pop-oriented Kate Bush, Marina writes luxuriant pop songs that have more hooks than a strip of Velcro. Leading her band from the piano, Marina's compositions have the feel of tunes so strong they could stand on their own in a solo environment. But with a full band behind her on this recording (before a live audience), her songs take on a sheen that is enough to transfix the listener. (Special note must be made of fellow L.A. singer-songwriter Shannon Hurley, whose harmony vocals rival Marina's own voice.)

Still, the main ingredient in all this musical goodness is Marina's voice. It is near crystalline in its tonal purity, somewhere between that of Bush and Judy Collins. As with those singers, though, it isn't just the physical beauty of the voice that seduces, but how well she uses it. Pliant and expressive and clearly trained, Marina's singing is one of those miracles of both nature and nurture. The Beatles' "Here, There and Everywhere" is a perfect showcase for her voice, and she turns in one of the all-too-rare Beatles covers that can rival the original.

Great songs, one of the most beautiful voices on the planet, looks to rival most Hollywood starlets ---- Marina V seems destined for fame and fortune. Get in on the ground floor.

just a few comments on the live CD. Simply put it is awesome!! I feel there was a good mix of new songs and old. I am so pleased to have been a part of that experience. It was an honor to be there.I am extra happy to have "Unbalanced" on a CD now!! I wouldn't say it's my favorite song, because I love all of Marina's songs and it wouldn't be fair to those other amazing songs, but "Unbalanced" is extra special to me because it is the first song I ever heard Marina play back on Jan.9th,2004 in Las Vegas.Marina's music is the most beautiful I've ever heard and her vocals are the most angelic, exquisite I have ever heard!! Anybody who doesn't have the live CD needs to pick up a copy or two right away. You won't be disappointed! Thanks for reading.Marina is the greatest, now let's get out there and support her and spread the word!!Peace to all. Todd m

MarinaV's new CD "Live at SoundMoves" is amazing.....I cannot stop listening to
MarinaV's new CD "Live at SoundMoves" is amazing.....I cannot stop listening to it. No one can beat MarinaV's live performances. I truly believe this is her best CD yet (and they are all GREAT!!!).

If you have not yet had the opportunity to see MarinaV perform live, I urge each of you to drive, ride, fly, walk, run, or crawl to a MarinaV performance near you as soon as possible.....they really are that good. MarinaV's live shows are the perfect showcase for her lyrics, voice, and music. You will not regret it, I promise. If distance, age, or cost of travel make it unlikely you will be able to attend a live MarinaV performance anytime soon, I must say that "Live at SoundMoves" is the next best thing to being there.

Hey, the reviews don't lie!
This girl is on the verge of being a breakout star for 2007. You can find out why by listening to her CDs. The playing is extraordinary, vocals are flawless, and her songs are well written. You can really listen to these and enjoy them without being pounded over the head with production, too. It's very well done. And, if you're lucky enough to have a chance to see her in concert, don't miss it. Tickets are low priced now, but that won't be the case much longer. She has too much talent and her story is so interesting that she won't be obscure much longer. Compared to Tori Amos, I'm very familiar with them both, and now I'll take Marina V, anytime! She's what Tori USED to be! Check her out. You won't regret it!

Marina's best CD yet!
I think this album is amazing. I have been listening to it nonstop ever since I got it in the mail. It's great to hear the new songs and the new versions of the songs I already have on other CDs. The stories Marina tells are very endearing and get you even closer to Marina as an artist. Thank you for the beautiful album!

The Best Work Ever. A Must Buy
The 'Live at SoundMoves' is simply the best work ever. Not only does Marina V sounds awesome, I love the little snipplets of her life which she shared between songs which makes it even more personal.

If there is only one thing you can purchase this year, I would say the 'Marina V:Live at SoundMoves' is the sure winner. It is par excellent.

A recording of passionate lyrics, astounding music, and sheer talent.
This CD is filled with a passion for music like no other CD I've heard. The charming voice of Marina's is even more charming on this album than any of her other CDs. Her songs give a glimpse into her life and her voice does an equally good job of doing so. This new release is one to own and treasure for a lifetime.

CD is totally awesome!!!!!!!!!
WOW, I just got home and new CD was waiting for me. This CD is totally awesome, I had no idea just how great she is live. I feel like I am listening to these songs for the first time and I'm lovin it.

Stop what you are doing and order this NOW!
I almost didn't get this because I have all her other CDs and most of these tracks are available on her previous releases. That would have been a BIG mistake. After listening to it, I'd have to say if I only could keep one Marina V CD, this would have to be it. Excellent new arrangements of the older material, and Marina's singing is as heartbreakingly beautiful as ever. The three new tracks (two originals and a Lennon/McCartney cover) are awesome as well; in fact "Unbalanced" is worth the price of admission all by itself, and if "Father" doesn't bring a tear to your eye you might just be dead already. Exquisite work from a beautiful lady. Two words: Buy it!
