ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Veritas is an instrumental work featuring pianist/composer Mark Christopher Brandt and multi-reed player Geoff Thaler. Mark is not widely known as a Christian or Catholic music composer. The first 3 tracks of Veritas, however, were actually set to the text of the Lord’s Prayer (Veritas Part 1), the form of the Holy Rosary (Veritas Part 2) and the Hail Mary itself (Veritas Part 3) which ends with Mark’s chant-like morning offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The text can be found in the printed scores to these pieces.

Veritas was Mark’s first session as a leader. It is a lyrical, romantic and deeply meditative work which, deftly and without pretense, straddles the worlds of what is best in jazz and classical music. Inspired by Mark’s spiritual awakening in 1991, his healing from drug and alcohol addiction and his subsequent embracing of Catholicism and the teachings of Jesus Christ, Veritas is passionate, courageous and peaceful at the same time.
