Album Notes
If James Taylor and Dave Matthews spent a night together getting juiced up on pop rock, their "musical love child" would be Mark DeRose and The Way Home! Patrick Kirchner of The Fly describes this engaging music as “thoughtful and provocative, laden with metaphors of hope and celebration for life – the stuff that makes feel good music feel so good."  Attend a live performance and you will easily see and hear each band member’s love of performing their brand of “feel-good” music that seems to appeal to such a wide variety of listeners.

While lead singer/songwriter Mark DeRose spent the first part of his career searching for musical direction in both Boston, MA and Philly, PA he came to discover exactly what he was looking for back home: “I never thought I would move back to my hometown and find the kind of kinship I have found with Jay, Ben, Dan and Ffej” (Mark).

On the heels of finishing his first solo recording "Tales from the Sandcastle Kingdom", DeRose celebrated the accomplishment with a CD Release Party and a performance with a brand new backing band. The group (then comprised of Dan Brenner, Ben Eberts and DeRose) clicked immediately and spawned what was to come in the following years - Mark DeRose and The Way Home.

Mark DeRose and The Way Home features Ffej Herb on drums, Dan Brenner on keys/percussion/acoustic, Ben Eberts on bass, Jay Baab on lead guitar, Mark DeRose on lead vocals/guitar/keys - all of this is topped off with a good dose of harmony and backing vocals. The group has quickly become a cohesive unit with clear chemistry that naturally comes through in their live performances.

With a collection of recordings, numerous performances and a handful of opening slots for nationally touring acts under their belt, the band is currently celebrating their new release "Carolina Smile". (Released April 16, 2011)

Fueled by a genuine passion for performing live, Mark DeRose and The Way Home boasts a history of performances at a wide range of venues giving way to a growing fan base hungry for great music and great times.

They have had the pleasure of opening for national touring artists Rusted Root, Michelle Branch, Edwin McCain, Blues Traveler and Josh Kelley. They’ve also had the unique opportunity to perform as part of an NFL halftime show in front of a sell out crowd of over 70,000. During which, the Baltimore Ravens hosted the defending World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, just last year eight of the band’s songs were cleared for use on television’s oldest daytime soap opera, Guiding Light.

According to Michael Lessner of Live Nation (Former V.P. Executive of Capitol/Motown/EMI Records), “Mark’s music is definitely going in the right direction.” Just like many first-time listeners, Lessner was “pleasantly surprised” and ready to hear more!

Equipped with an innate ability to win over a crowd, the “[DeRose's] music shines through those ‘glass half empty days'” (Mike Cagesso, York Daily Record).  One appreciative fan summed it up by saying, "There is an honesty to their work that is so easy to connect with.  Whether it be the solid and intelligent lyrics or the intensity with which they pour themselves into their live shows, the listener can easily relate to the emotions expressed in the songs.”
