Album Notes
Dreaming Spirits is a World Jazz group led by Grammy award winning musicians, bassist Mark Egan and tabla player and percussionist Arjun Bruggeman and features special guest guitarist, Shane Theriot.

This fourteen song recording features 70 Minutes of original instrumental World Jazz compositions that explore multidirectional ambient grooves and masterful improvistations.

Arjun and Mark were inspired to record this project since 2008 from their first time spent playing together with the Kirtan chanting master, Krishna Das, with whom they continue to perform and record. They joined forces with the New Orleans guitarist, Shane Theriot who is also a Grammy award winning guitarist/producer and the musical director of Hall and Oates.

Listeners of John Mcglaughlin’s group, Shakti will feel at home with this recording as well as listeners of Pat Metheny, Oregon, Miles Davis and jazz, fusion, Blues and Kirtan Music in general.

Arjun Bruggeman-Percussionist/Composer

Arjun is a world percussionist and session recording artist and is highly acclaimed for his unique hybrid of East-meets- West rhythms.
At the age of 14, Arjun embarked on a touring career with punk rock bands. His interest in early progressive, metal and jazz rhythms led him into a creative journey and later found himself enthralled by world percussion. Simultaneously, Arjun practiced many forms of Eastern spirituality. Through these explorations he merged the inner quest with the exterior expressions of sound and found himself supporting spoken word with Coleman Barks and David Darling.
Arjun recalls, “I wanted to go deeper. I wanted to support something that was bigger than me something more than music.” This profound experience led Arjun to meet Krishna Das and a connection with Neem Karoli Baba.

Soon thereafter he began touring with Krishna Das worldwide and over the past decade has shared the stage with noted musicians Sting, John Densmore, Mark Egan, Jerry Morrata, Steve Gorn, Jackson Browne and Crosby Stills and Nash.

Arjun has recorded and performed with artists such as Jason Mraz, Belinda Carlisle, Jon Anderson, Trevor Hall, Robert Bly, Michael Franti, Hu Dost, Snatam Kaur, Shyamdas, and The John Ginty Band.

In 2016, Arjun released his self-titled debut album Arjun. The six-track album features all original compositions exploring the musical journey of the soul. Arjun is currently in the studio recording his follow-up offering of world percussion centered on improvisation. Additionally, he has recently partnered with renowned jazz artist Mark Egan, the duo’s album is scheduled for release in the fall of 2017.
When he’s not touring or in the studio, you can find Arjun at Iron Maiden concerts.

Shane Theriot-Guitarist/Composer/Producer

Theriot has either recorded or performed with a wide variety of artists in virtually all styles of music including The Neville Brothers, Hall and Oates, Boz Scaggs, LeAnn Rimes, Beyoncé, Harry Connick Jr., Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Willie Nelson (he also makes an uncredited appearance in the movie The Dukes of Hazzard with Willie Nelson in band scene), Madeleine Peyroux, Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, Aaron Neville, Maria Muldaur, Larry Carlton, John Waite, Leni Stern, Zachary Richard, Steve Earle, Idris Muhammad, Blue Floyd, Marc Broussard, Slim Whitman, The Syn (with Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes), and Little Feat among others.
Theriot worked as the personal guitar instructor for Forest Whitaker and Nick Nolte for the 2010 road movie My Own Love Song.

Mark Egan-Bassist/Composer/Producer

His unique fretless bass sound and style is both distinctive and versatile making him one of the most in-demand electric bassists on the music scene today.
With three platinum and three gold albums to his credit, Mark has recorded with the likes of the original Pat Metheny Group, Elements, Sting, Gil Evans, Carly Simon, John Mclaughlin, Cyndi Lauper, John Abercrombie, Michael Franks, Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Judy Collins, Marc Cohn, Duran Duran and Joan Osborne.

He has performed and recorded with legendary artists such as Pat Martino, David Sanborn, Larry Coryell, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, Marianne Faithful, Ali Ryerson, Joe Beck and Lew Soloff. He also has co-led the group Elements with drummer Danny Gottlieb since 1982. With ten recordings to date, the group continues to tour worldwide featuring artists such as Bill Evans, Clifford Carter, David Mann and Gil Goldstein.

Born in Brockton Massachusetts, after high school he studied music at the University of Miami under the direction of the great jazz educator, Jerry Coker and moved to New York City in 1976 with singer Phyliss Hyman’s group with Hiram Bullock, Clifford Carter and Billy Bowker.
Mark quickly became established on the New York music scene recording and playing with David Sanborn, The Pointer Sisters, Vickie Sue Robinson, Sonny Fortune, Steve Grossman, Mark Murphy, Eumir Deodato and Stan Getz. It was during this time that former U. of M. classmate Pat Metheny asked Mark to form the original group along with Lyle Mays and Danny Gottlieb. They spent the next four years touring worldwide 300 days per year and recording two records, The Pat Metheny Group and American Garage.

Since that time Mark has released seven recordings as a leader:
Mosaic, A touch of Light, Beyond Words, Freedom Town. As We Speak,
Truth Be Told and his most recent release About Now.

In 1993 Mark launched the independent record label, Wavetone Records, which has twenty five releases and is distributed worldwide.
He continues to compose and record at his Electric Fields recording studio where he produces his group Elements, solo projects and various artists.
