ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“I've seen a lot of acts, but the harmonies of these two are so aligned and balanced, I felt as though I got an audio 'tune up' inside me after listening to their songs."
-Kiki Wow, Music Host & Promoter for CarmelValley

“It was an impeccable performance. Never have I witnessed such control of the steel stringed guitar’s sound. This was a flawless show.”
–Mark Twang, Folkways Recordings

“Mark has elegant performer's timing onstage, never a moment out of place. He’s also a good songwriter and to call him a remarkable player would be a considerable understatement-- just about nobody I know is doing what he can do on the guitar.”
--Carol Denney- legendary Berkeley singer and songwriter

Exquisite clarity and balance
I just listened to this CD in my car, no less, not the best of listening environments). I was struck by the clarity of the sound, which complements the clarity of the lyrics and the perfect simplicity of the scoring, and by the balance between the voices, and between the voices and the instruments. Mark and Cindy each have beautiful voices individually, and they weave together perfectly. If you have heard any of Mark's other work, you already know that he is one of the finest guitarists it will ever be your pleasure to hear, and this is just as true in this instance where he is accompanying as in his solo guitar work. His passage work is inventive and interesting. But really, with folk music the poetry is of the utmost importance, and Home Isn't Home is full of fantastic evocative imagery, and stories that will move you deeply.
