Album Notes
Solitude Collection ~ Acoustic Hymns is a soothing instrumental CD, and highlights favorite hymns played on acoustic guitar by arranger / producer Mark Magnuson. These peaceful and simple arrangements inspire inner peace, hope, meditation.

Ross Parsley, executive producer on several albums for NewLifeWorship, calls Acoustic Hymns a "soundtrack for worship and meditation".

The Acoustic Hymns recording is borne of simplicity and humility, purposefully seeking artistic space and breathing room. The parts of the canvas which are empty become a part of the overall artistic picture. Tranquil melodies lead the listener toward peace, relaxation, contemplation, hope.

Another listener reports, "The music weaves together in a masterful way, carrying the soul into the very presence of God."

Guitarist / arranger Mark Magnuson says, "To prepare for this album, I studied the original organ arrangements to understand the interplay of voicing and complementary parts. The melodies are common to most listeners, but behind the scenes there are numerous moving parts. The interwoven nature of these countermelody and harmony lines brings a very full texture to even a simple instrument like an acoustic guitar. I was overjoyed to record this album."

The concept for the Solitude Collection was also borne of adversity and tribulation.

"I had been presented with the concept several years before", said Mark, "and shelved the idea. When my father was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2003, I knew why I was supposed to record it. These familiar hymns bring peace and comfort to those who listen. Toward the end of his life, my Dad would be comforted by these songs. In a real sense, I pondered the solitude he was facing, passing from this life into the next. I wanted the music to sound like I was right there playing it for him."

Mark's guitar work is inspired by John Michael Talbot, Michael Hedges, Billy McLaughlin, Phil Keaggy, and Will Ackerman.

Looking forward to next release
Having known Mark for over 20 years, I know this CD is not a performance but rather worship 'in spirit and truth' with a desire to draw others into true worship as well. It does that for me. This is music that will enhance the reviving of the lost discipline of solitude. I look forward to additional releases as they become available.

Stirs the soul...
Acoustic Hymns has found a way for the 'still small voice' of God to speak through music. The music weaves together in a masterful way, carrying the soul into the very presence of God.

...a soundtrack for worship and meditation
"Mark Magnuson radiates joy in his music! His arrangements breathe life into these ancient melodies, soothing my soul and lifting my spirit. It's not just a collection of hymns, it's a soundtrack for worship and meditation."

Beautiful in its simplicity...
Just the kind of CD I enjoy listening to. Rather than demanding my attention, it draws me in with its soothing authenticity. A wonderful sounding recording.

Inspirational to my family
Mark, thank you so much! My family and I played Acoustic Hymns in the car immediately after getting it, and enjoyed it immensely. My teenage daughter is considering studying music as a guitar major. Listening to your CD was inspiring to both of us. May you be overwhelmingly blessed for this labor of love that will no doubt bless so many for so many years to come.

Francesco Geo; Rome, Italy

I suddenly felt peace
Your CD is very gentle and intimate, and simple. I must say that when I listened to it the first time (and I was very tired from work) I felt peace suddenly. And that is what’s important.

Musical and emotional
Nice balance, sound, and very, very moving. Keep up the good work.
