Album Notes
This melancholic neo-classical song-cycle owes as much to boundary pushing acts like This Mortal Coil, Kate Bush and Rufus Wainwright as it does to 19th/20th century composers such as Faure, Saint-Saens or Bryars. The piano/string led arrangements shimmer with romantic textures while the songs themselves show strong undercurrents of rock, folk and cabaret.

The lead vocals are performed by a loose collective of talented vocalists drawn from different genres (pop, rock, jazz, musical theatre, classical). Mark takes lead vocal on the song Zero. Ghostly fragments of anticipated and repeated themes from the album introduce each song, melding the work into a near-continuous whole.

A choreographic music video for the song Waiting For Green can be seen on YouTube.

The front and rear artwork for the album is taken from paintings by Tamara Dubnycnyj - a graduate from the RCA, London.

Critical acclaim:

'Ever wondered what a Sondheim musical from his darker years would sound like if it was recorded by an indie pianist and some buds? Well, wait no longer!'
(Sputnik Music staff reviewer Adam Downer; featured in Adam's Top 20 of 2008 and Top 100 of the decade)

'Like a Tim Burton movie for the ears - quirky, detailed, immaculately produced...' (Bluesbunny, rating 4/5)

'A fine debut.' (Music Musings And Miscellany)

'This one's for fans of Chamber music, The Cure, The Smiths and any other melancholic pop band of the last twenty years.' (Wildy's World, rating 4/5)

'It flutters between Beatles-grade melody and esoteric dissonance.' (Music Zeitgeist)

'In all, this is an album that achieves what it sets out to do in uniting seemingly disparate styles, effectively highlighting the emotion in the lyrics with a poignant musical backdrop.' (Progression Magazine, rating 13/16)

Magnifique !
