Album Notes
I call my my solo piano sound and style "Piano Impressionism." Each solo piano piece played on a grand piano is very intimate, velvety in sound and changes moods like the waves on the ocean. There are unpredictable twists and turns in my music and when you close your eyes and listen you will most likely go places that you haven't been before in your imagination. As you listen to the musical journey you'll come to a deeper place of calm and relaxation....some tension and worries etc will melt away.. I am very happy to share my music with you. Thanks so much for listening!! with love and light, Mark

Another Pinkus masterpiece!
Mark Pinkus has created another masterpiece in his latest album Deep Diving. My following review touches on some of the tracks that impressed me the most:

The CD opens with Swedish Skies, a poignant and melodic piece whose gentle but irresistible tugs at our emotions are a fitting overture to this recording.

The dissonant melody of track 3; The Endless Apartment Search Waltz will be strangely familiar and oddly comforting to all those who have experienced a July 1st moving day in Montreal!

Beside Me, track six on Deep Diving is a wonderful and soothing lullaby which flows smoothly into the passionate repeated opening notes of the opening theme of La Deesse de la Nature and through the flowing arpeggios of Lakshmi and Sita. All three pieces are intensely satisfying in their meditative concept and execution.

Another two highlights of the album follow immediately: Le Petit Sentier de la Presence has a slightly ominous opening theme, but over a lovely progression resolves peacefully into a beautiful conclusion. I Saw the Birthday Sun, track 10, is a delicate exploration of a simple melody which veers into touches of Gershwin before returning to its original statement, ending with a jazzy suspended chord.

The last piano piece on the album, Concierto Para Mi Papa, is, to my ears, the standout track of Deep Diving. A celebration of his father, Mark has brought out all his emotion and love in the gorgeous melodies and rhythms of this final cut.

All together, Deep Diving stands alongside all of Mark Pinkus’s best work. In my eyes, this amazing artist should have long ago been recognized by the public as one of Canada’s foremost pianists and composers.
