Album Notes
Marlon McREAL, born Marlon McNeill Jr., is a 25-year-old rapper/producer from Wilmington, Delaware where he currently resides. He has been writing rhymes since the age of 10, and started producing nine years later while attending college. His background in music started in grade school where he played the saxophone in the school band. From there he went on to pursue the drums in middle school, where he also played in the band. For high school, Marlon attended Delcastle Vo-Tech, but his music pursuits took a pause due to no music program being available. However, this was no dead to his musical endeavors.

Marlon could not be separated from his love of music for long; he was able to revisit his passion when he attended Wesley College in 2010. He did not join a band, but he did dedicate himself to becoming a student of music by taking classes such as Music Theory, Jazz History, Music & Recording Technology, as well as others. He also hosted a weekly segment for the school’s radio station in his free time. Furthermore, during his college years he picked up a new hobby and started to make hip-hop/rap instrumentals that he would either sell to local rap artists, or use them for his own rhymes. In 2014, as part of his senior project, Marlon completed his first album titled Commencement, which was compilation of his work as a producer.

Marlon had established his own sound in regard to production, but he was still trying to develop himself and create his voice as an emcee. In 2016 he did just that when releasing his most successful single, Fly Away – a song about his thoughts on many controversial topics. His unequivocal and unapologetic tone in this particular song encapsulates who he is as an artist. Also in the same year, before releasing Fly Away, he founded his stage name, Marlon McREAL.

The word "REAL" in his name is an acronym that embodies the direction of his music: Renaissance of an Educated & Ambitious Leader. The music that Marlon creates is true to his own personal story and life experiences. At the same time, he shares knowledge from his unique perspective to promote positive growth within inner-city areas. Marlon, a deep thinker, seeks to invalidate the negative connotation that is connected to the word REAL (i.e. "real nigga"). Through the use of his name and the message he speaks in his lyrics, Marlon McREAL is redefining what it means to be REAL in the hip-hop community.
