ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Marly Marques was born in Luxembourg into a Portuguese family. She discovered her passion for music at a young age.

After a brief passage in different choirs and blues bands, she found her calling in jazz. As luck would have it, she met four skilled jazzmen in 2012 and they happened to really hit it off, Luxembourg being a very favorable country for happy (and improbable!) encounters.

From this day on, Marly Marques 5tet performed in the most famous jazz venues of Luxembourg and around : Neumünster Abbey for the Piano Plus festival, at Inouï Hall, at the festival Like A Jazz Machine in Dudelange, at Atelier as an opener for Stacey Kent at the Wiltz Festival ass an opener for Cécile McLorin Salvant, at Casa da Música in Porto, at the Kriol Jazz Festival in Cabo Verde, at the Al Bustan Jazz Festival in Lebanon, at b-flat in Berlin, and in France, at the festival Nancy Jazz Pulsations, at the Nuit du jazz in Portes-les-Valence, at the festival Jazz en Nord in Lille, at the festival Jazzpote in Thionville, at the Dominicains in Guebwiller and at the festival Jazzy Colors in Paris.

In August 2014, Marly Marques 5tet won the “prix du jury” at the Crest Vocal Jazz Festival in France.

Marly Marques 5tet’s first album “Só ar ser” was recorded in Germany and has been released in May 2014.

The band does not hesitate to venture on the world music field, but without denying its jazzy roots. The musicians know how to entangle jazz standards with their own compositions, sometimes even tackling a few pop standards (for instance « Seven Nation Army » by the White Stripes). The Marly Marques Quintet succeeds in distinguishing itself thanks to the Portuguese, Spanish and English authentic lyrics of the songs that bring a very smart touch to the performances of the band.

« schwungvolle wie auch samtweiche Klänge » - Télécran

« Marly Marques fecha Spring On ! em grande » - Jornalismo Porto Net
« du charme, de la sincérité, de la musicalité : des musiciens à suivre ! » - Philippe Chassang, jazz-rhone-alpes.com
