Album Notes
The Trumpet Summit is led by Trumpeter Marques Carroll who helped birth the ensemble four years ago with trumpeters Marquis Hill and Shaun Johnson. Since then, the ensemble has gone through many changes as it has settled into its groove and voice to the music. The current lineup that includes Victor Garcia, Quentin Coaxum, Ryan Nyther (alternate), Amr Fahmy (piano), Andrew Vogt (bass) and Isaiah Spencer (drums) have dedicated the group to paying tribute to the great trumpeters of the Jazz idiom also known as BAM (Black American Music). The group has adapted original works from trumpeters Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Lee Morgan, Clark Terry, Freddie Hubbard and others into their songbook through each member arranging for the ensemble while also presenting original works from each member as well. You can hear this ensemble on their latest work and debut album, In Stride We Keep Steppin’. The ensemble is in their fourth year residency at Andy's Jazz Club and will spend the majority of the year presenting original works from each artist in the group while dedicating one night a month to a particular trumpet player and other artists.
