ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From the very heart of Nashville, Tennessee comes this latest offering by singer-songwriter Marty Rivers. Marty’s new album “Midnight Sky” is a collection of 12 songs, eleven of which are written by Marty himself in collaboration once again with Joe Spiteri. The album opens with the title song, which introduces for the first time in Marty’s music the Cajun sound of the accordion, an instrument also featured in “Louisiana Girl”, a song about dancing and partying with this southern belle and the zydeco. Two songs of faith are also included here; “God sent Angel” is a ballad about the strong faith of a childless woman while “The Power of Prayer” is a bluegrass number that will surely uplift you. Marty also introduces “Lora Mae” to the listeners, a country rock song about an out of control redneck woman who just moved into the neighborhood; The sound of the fiddle opens up three of the songs on the album; First there’s “Addict for your Love” a contemporary country ballad about an addict, not for smoke or alcohol but for the love of a woman; then there’s “Run Angel Run” an up-tempo song that speaks directly to that young woman whose dreams are being shattered in the big city and a warning voice telling her to pack her bags and travel on. One of the two more traditional sounding songs on the album, “Queen of my Heart” is a country ballad reminiscent of the classic country songs that artists like George Jones recorded through the years with the twin fiddles and the steel guitar complementing each other. Then there’s the only song which is not co-written by Marty but penned by Nashville songwriter, Lonnie Ratliff along with Vaughn Lofstead, a honky tonk song about “The Rise and Fall of a Honky Tonk Hero”. The fresh sound of the Latin guitar introduces “Just in Case”, a mid-tempo song about lost love. “Mama, you’re the Lady” is a special tribute to all the wonderful mothers, both the living and the ones residing up above while the album’s closing track “Forever Yours” is an acoustic song about love eternal. This album will indeed take you on a musical journey with all its variation in mood and style. Enjoy the Ride!

Biography

Being born in a musical family, singer-songwriter Marty Rivers was drawn into music from a very early age by listening attentively to his grandfather playing the guitar and immersing himself in his father’s record collection. At the age of 13, young Marty took part in a singing contest in his native island of Malta and won with the Conway Twitty classic ‘It’s only make Believe’ despite being the only non-adult participant. It was around this time that Marty formed his first band and started performing in various bars and venues all over. It was the beginning of a long road that has nonetheless brought him success and helped him develop into the artist he is today.
Although his passion for country music has been within him since childhood, he has ventured into other musical genres which developed in him a sense of versatility that is so evident in his music today, both as a songwriter and also as a performer. The first collection of original songs was released in Marty’s debut self-titled album ‘Marty Rivers’ with two of its tracks charting high on various European Country Music charts.
In 2008, Marty released the album ‘Out of the Blue’, produced in Nashville by Gary Carter who worked with world known artists such as Randy Travis and Faith Hill. This was another set of songs all written by Marty himself along with Joe Spiteri, songs that reflect the various musical influences that left such a blueprint on Marty’s music. Various tracks from the album were released as radio singles, all of them charting high on various charts including the song ‘Made in Mexico’ which went to number 1 on J. Ramgatie Country music International Top 40, the spiritual ‘Blinded’ an American Gospel top 10 hit and ‘Call Colorado’, voted as a top song during the 2008 Music Row Songwriters Festival in Nashville.

In November 2010, the self-penned gospel song ‘The Lord is coming soon’, originally recorded on Marty’s first album, reached the number 1 spot on the God’s Country International Music charts and number 3 on the American Gospel Music charts. That same year, Marty teamed up again with Joe and started working on some new material for a new album which was then recorded in Nashville with a group of top class musicians, and like his previous album was produced by Gary Carter. ‘Midnight Sky’ the latest offering from Marty is a set of 12 songs that once again show the versatility in Marty’s music. The first radio single, ‘Run angel Run’, from this new album did very well as it already hit the number 8 spot on the Hotdisc European Country Top 40. With a new collection of songs that he really believes in, Marty is looking forward to much more success in the near future.

Midnight Sky
The newest effort of Marty River, calls Midnight sky. Produced and recorded in Nashville Midnight Sky doesn’t always sound like your typical country album. Leading track “Midnight Sky” comes with a distinctive Mexican vibe and my first impression was “Eleven 100 Springs”. The sound was so recognizable to the one on Country Jam by Eleven 100 springs that I would have sworn he stole it from their secret gig list. Big however was my surprise when I read this guys is not even born American, but raise in Malta, Europe.

Nevertheless Marty Rivers sounds like he is drenched in country from birth. Recorded in Nashville, with a group of top session musicians from Nashville he creates a sound that is more reminiscent to Southern Texas and the Texas Hills. Making that statement is probably already the strongest argument to buy this album I can think of. Tracks like Midnight sky, Run Angel Run or “Louisiana Girl” could be heating up an already hot Texan night and throw in a real dance party if served with some good, cold Dos XX, Miller or Corrs. Another wonderful album full of self–penned Honky tonk music and classic country sounds. A must for everyone who loves a good old-fashioned country record.
