Album Notes
Maryann Fennimore, singer, songwriter and mandolin player for Mary and the Strays started out her music writing and performance career in New York City in 2001 with Crescent and Frost. The group produced three records over the seven years they were together, and Fennimore moved to Rome, Italy in 2008. Soon after arriving Fennimore made musical connections in Rome and began writing for her first solo record, OVERTIME. In the summer of 2009 she recorded the record with Producer and Bassist Jason Mercer and with the help of musicians Ana Egge, Daniel Marcus, Rich Hinman, and Chris Brown.Your Turn to be Lonely is Maryann Fennimore's second solo project since moving to Europe in 2008.

“I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with Jason Mercer on our second project together. Something about his recording studio in Brooklyn brings out the best in my songs. This record is the most important one yet, because it takes the vulnerability of my songwriting and turns it into something stronger, something untouchable.”

-Maryann Fennimore

Mercer, producer of and bass player on the new record has been working with Fennimore since 2003 when he started as the bass player in Maryann’s former band Crescent and Frost. Since then their friendship through music has continued, and yielded two records, “Overtime” and the soon to be released “Your Turn to be Lonely”.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have had to chance to work with the most talented musicians in the singer/songwriter/folk/bluegrass scene right now; Ana Egge, Todd Livingston, Rob Hecht, and Jason Mercer. I am thrilled and honored that Tim O’Brien is also featured on the record, because I have been a fan of his for my entire music making career.”

-Maryann Fennimore

“Your Turn To Be Lonely” promises to be Fennimore’s best work yet. While it continues to embrace elements of bluegrass and folk, it starts to define its own genre defying sound. The songs are rich with images of memory, and longing, peppered with humorous irony about falling in love.
