Album Notes
Mary Ann Mc Sweeney was born and raised in Aptos, California. She began playing the piano at age five, picked the violin when she was eight and finally the acoustic bass. She currently freelances in New York City. She has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Stacy Rowles, Jack Sheldon, Maiden Voyage, Diva and has performed at the Monterey, Playboy, Sedona and Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festivals. She has also worked with famous conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, John Williams and Lalo Schifrin.

After 10 years of freelancing in Los Angeles Mary Ann moved to New York in 1993 and has played on 34 Broadway shows and currently is working with Audra MacDonald, Lea Delaria , Ursula Dudziak and David Krakouer. Mc Sweeney's music comes from her classical background and is also inspired from her mentors, Ray Brown, John Clayton and Richie Beirach.

Acoustic bass is a supportive instrument, however, it is used as a melodic
voice in her compositions which can be heard on her new CD “Swept Away.” The line up of players are some of New Yorks finest.

Bring on the bass!
The upright bass is certainly my favourite instrument, and thanks to May Ann and this beautiful album, it's certainly not an exception. "Journey to the Center" makes me cry, as does "From the Other Side", but I love the title track the best. In fact, the album was so good I bought three copies from CD baby; one for myself and the others for outside-of-work friends. You go, girl!

Powerful performer and composer
This is the second CD by MaryAnn McSweeney that I have bought and I enjoyed it even more than the first. The group is more cohesive, production is great, MAMcSweeney is a great composer and has produced a fine work. Her bass sound is incredible especially the bowed work. I am also a great fan of her husband Mike Fahn who also plays valve trombone on the album and he is shown off very well. I hope she produces a new recording soon and visits us in the UK.
