Album Notes
Mary Beth Abella | In Another Life

Following the release of her second album--the primarily guitar-based, “Nice Girl--" Abella spent the next few years exploring new instrumentation while playing glockenspiel, keys, guitar, percussion, and even kazoo for hubby, Chris Jacks’ (Sandra Bernhard, Fly, Space Mtn) alt rock band, The Chromium Heart. Inspired by Jacks’ knack for creating original sounds from both traditional and nontraditional instruments, toys, and other objects, Abella recruited his innovative production, arrangement, and multi-instrumentalist skills to complete her third album, “In Another Life.”

“In Another Life” blends Mary Beth Abella’s haunting vocal style, catchy, Beatles-esque melodies, and well-crafted lyrics with Jacks’ lush production. The result is a delicious mix of rich, dream-like pieces that travel genres from upbeat indie pop, ala Feist and Aimee Mann ("Make Me Happy" and "Ever Stays the Same"), to sweet modern folk, like Bon Iver ("Home"), to more moody, multi-layered songs, reminiscent of the Flaming Lips, Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi, and Nico ("Another Dream," "If Anyone," "Holding My Breath").

Abella is the recipient of the Lionel Richie Songwriting Scholarship at UCLA Extension, finalist in the Song of the Year contest, a Westword Magazine Best Singer Songwriter nominee, and was named top 10 artists by the Denver Daily News for her album, “What Happened to the Girls?” Her first two albums ´´Nice Girl´´ and "What Happened to the Girls?" are available at and on iTunes.
