Great & Solemn Wild

by Marybeth D'amico

Nicknamed: “The Jersey City Tapes”, and intended to be demos for a studio album, Marybeth D’Amico’s final album “Great & Solemn Wild” was a project presented to her in her last year with us. The songs are some of her most personal, raw, and beautiful.

Album Notes
Marybeth was a headstrong woman. Her passion and determination to not settle for something good or decent is not only one of the things I admired most about her, but something that still inspires me to live my life each day. She was determined to do good things in her life, and if you ask anyone close to her, she accomplished that.

All tracks were recorded on a two-track Supersonic tape deck with two microphones in Marybeth D’Amico’s Jersey City livingroom. Originally titled and nicknamed: “The Jersey City Tapes”, and intended to be demos for a studio album, Marybeth D’Amico’s final album “Great & Solemn Wild” is a project I was lucky enough to present to her as an idea in her last year with us.

We recorded the final song, “Great & Solemn Wild”, less than a month before she passed from cancer. It became the final and title track to this album thanks to the help of her two daughters Francesca and Bianca who accompanied her on guitar and vocals.

Though I was devastated to lose a friend, I am grateful we were able to record what I think is some of her most personal, touching, and beautiful work. I know she would be beyond thrilled to see that this record became a reality.

“Great & Solemn Wild” was made possible thanks to the support and guidance of Marybeth’s daughters, as well as mixing help from John Agnello, mastering help from Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, and design help from Mike Krol.

This final album was made to honor and celebrate the life of Marybeth D’Amico. It’s something I promised her I would finish and couldn’t be prouder with the result. If we can take away anything from knowing Marybeth, it should be to go out into this world that we not only live in, but we share, and do some good in it. Good for ourselves, but most importantly, good for others, and the world as a whole.
