ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is Mary's first solo recording and is a collection born of many years writing and adventures in music throughout the US and Europe.

"On this record you'll hear songs about the things that concern me - love found, love lost, family, the search for that elusive quiet spot in every busy day, a cunning plan for world unity and a plea for basic fairness. You'll hear great playing from the team, words that make you think, I hope, encased in good, strong melodies with choruses you get to sing along to. There are harmony parts you can get your teeth into if you listen closely enough - layers enough to keep you occupied and hold you for listen after listen (that's the plan anyway!) I hope you're curious enough to buy it and if you do, I hope you enjoy it. Visit our website and let me know what you think (about the music of course). My thanks to the brilliant players who brought SEA OF HEARTS to life. Everyone did a great job and I'm delighted with us all including the cuckoo (see you next year man)."

Mary Greene is one half of the duo Noel Shine and Mary Greene. To date they have released two critically acclaimed albums THE LAND YOU LOVE THE BEST and UNSPOKEN LINES. The former folk collection featured in the top 3 folk albums of the year of its release in The Irish Times. Kate Purcell's version of Mary's song 'Dress of Green' from Unspoken Lines was in the top ten most requested songs of the year on Mike Harding's BBC2 radio show. ‘Even Heaven Has To Cry’, a song co-written with Dublin songwriter Jim Dwan, was picked up by Irish folk legend Sean Keane for his most recent album. Ita Kelly of The Irish Music Magazine has this to say: “ Of the songs, Mary Greene’s ‘Even Heaven Has to Cry’ stands out on the album. It is a powerfully slow and emotional song, beautifully balanced.”

Mary's voice has been featured on a plethora of cds by other artists such as Christy Moore, John Spillane, Frances Black and Mick Hanly to name but a few and she has worked extensively in studio with renowned producer, Declan Sinnott.

From time to time her voice can be heard over the airwaves and she has broadcast several series of her music show, Nightown, on RTE Radio one, Ireland’s premier radio station.
Active in the songwriting world of Ireland, Mary ran the Irish Music Rights Organisation showcase of song and tune writers for several years in the (sadly no more) legendary venue The Lobby Bar in Cork city. She was also part of a songwriting team that represented IMRO in the Tin Pan South festival of songwriting in Nashville.
Both Mary and Noel's songwriting was featured as part of an exhibition of Cork songwriting put together by Cork City Library for the 2005 European Capital of Culture.
For the foreseeable future, Mary will be touring her album anywhere people want to hear it.

a beautiful collection of small epiphanies
Four years on from the release of Mary Greene and Noel Shine's last album as a duo, the excellent UNSPOKEN LINES, Greene has finally launched her debut solo CD. It's a beautiful collection of small epiphanies, exquisitely described and rendered in Greene's sweet, supple voice.Standouts include THE IN-BETWEEN, a lyrical ode to twilight and GROOVE AROUND THE WORLD, an irresistibly catchy number that starts out sounding like 'The Sultans of Swing' and develops into a retro-styled Hammond organ and jazz flute exploration that's, well, groovy.
