Album Notes
The Denver Post calls Mary's voice "part church bell, part meadowlark...hers is a voice of clarity and singularity." "By Heart" is Mary Huckins' first "solo" CD project... and it is just beautiful! She is joined on this very special live recording by Nashville's Pete Huttlinger. Pete used to be John Denver's guitar player and right-hand man. Brian Hunter, sound engineer at Swallow Hill Music in Denver, CO captured this live show just perfectly. One can just hear Mary's heart singing out through her voice and Pete's guitar doing the same. These 2 were born to share the stage and to share their music! There are 9 beautiful cuts from the "Live Swallow Hill" performance and 3 bonus tracks from a live Dakota Blonde performance with Scott Bennett. This one needs to find its way into your heart and into your special music collection.

A little about Mary Huckins: Praised for her sweet vocals, songwriting talents and enduring stage presence, Mary Huckins is one of the most unique vocalists in acoustic music. She is the lead singer & songwriter, and a founding member of the Denver-based band, Dakota Blonde. Mary grew up the youngest of 7 children in a very musical family in South Dakota and moved to Colorado to pursue a degree in Music Therapy. As a music therapist working with children & adolescents who are emotionally troubled, she is a huge believer in the amazing power of music! Receiving top honors for her songwriting, there is both a simplicity and a depth... often drawing on her South Dakota roots for inspiration, she sings of life and love in a beautifully singular manner. Whether originals or cover tunes, "Mary belts them out with an achingly lovely voice." "She's Colorado's Front Range's answer to Shawn Colvin and Nanci Griffith; part meadowlark, part church-bell." Jim Ratts, of Raven Recording, and engineer of Dakota Blonde's most recent CD, simply states it best, "Mary Huckins' voice is the closest distance between a voice and a heart." We think you'll agree.

A little about Pete Huttlinger: Pete Huttlinger has become widely known as one of the most awe-inspiring acoustic guitar players in the world. His unique arrangements and spell-binding musicality and precision have entertained audiences all from Los Angeles to Milan.
As a recording artist Huttlinger has released numerous albums and received wide-acceptance ranging from his critically acclaimed "Naked Pop" continuing to his current instrumental tour de force, "McGuire's Landing."
Praise from the media has been overwhelmingly positive and Huttlinger continues to expand his musical breadth.

In 2007, Huttlinger made his debut at New York City's Carnegie Hall. He was invited back in 2008 and made his first appearance there as a solo artist demonstrating what audiences around the world know him best for - his fantastic sense of humor and mind-blowing chops all combined to make a full-on, entertaining 90 minutes of laughter and chin-dropping. He performed there again in 2010. In 2004, 2007 and 2010, he was invited to participate in Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festivals.
In addition to his concert touring schedule, Huttlinger also spends a good deal of his time on stage speaking to audiences. He has taken what he's learned from surviving both a major stroke and end-stage heart failure and turned it into "Don't Just Live, Live Well," a presentation on how he has overcome what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles. "Don't Just Live, Live Well" has been embraced by audiences.

Huttlinger also makes appearances as a side-man. Country/pop superstar LeAnn Rimes has often requested him for her acoustic performances. Including the filming of "Live From Abbey Road," a BBC TV series taped at the famous London studios. It aired in America on BRAVO! Huttlinger also appeared with Rimes on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" and made an acoustic recording with her that was sold as an exclusive download through Kellog's. He toured with John Denver for the last four years of John's life and often toured with pop icon John Oates of Hall & Oates. *Sadly, Pete passed away Jan. 15, 2016. We miss him dearly and are blessed that his beautiful music and spirit lives on!

Dakota Blonde - “Soulful, delicate, powerful, insightful… all that and more,” are the words Michael Johnson (International recording artist/song-writer) uses to describe Dakota Blonde. “Highly addictive & absolutely contagious” is how their loyal & captivated audiences describe them! Any way you put it, Dakota Blonde, made up of Mary Huckins, Don Pinnella & Tony Raddell have certainly played and sung their way into countless hearts & souls around the globe! They met through their careers in Music Therapy, working with children and adolescents who are emotionally troubled. Therapy… yes… they have a special knack for including audiences in their music and finding the heart strings that music plays in all of us. This special capacity for empathy could explain the titanium bond the band quickly forms with their audiences. “Wonderful souls on and off the stage!” Performing originals and covers with their unique blend of heart, humor, authenticity and spirit, Dakota Blonde has had overwhelming success with all of their CD releases! … and they just keep ‘em coming! The group has received top honors for their song-writing, CD projects and performances across the country, and even internationally. You certainly won’t want to miss the opportunity to become a Blonde-Head!

“There are not many writers whose music and presentation moves me these days… then there’s Dakota Blonde. A group performing well written songs and singing them with heart & soul.”
-Pete Huttlinger, Instar Records, Nashville, TN
John Denver’s guitar player

“Sweetest acoustic sound around!”
