ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mary Thienes Schünemann was a committed musician, teacher, mother and homemaker. As a singer, composer, and music educator, Mary used her love for teaching as a way to bring song and sound into people's lives. She was the musical instructor for Lifeways North America, the president of the Rafael Foundation of New Impulses in Music and the co-director with Shea Darian of the women's vocal ensemble, Avalon A Cappella. Mary's musical mission lead her to found Naturally you can Sing Productions, designed for people who have a desire to connect or re-connect to the joy of singing and bring this joy into the lives of their children and young charges. Mary passed away in 2007 after a long battle with cancer. She was 47.

"I applaud the whole idea of what you're doing, Mary! Singin' while you're workin' is great!"
- Pete Seeger, Singer, activist in labor, peace, civil rights & environmental movements for over 50 years

"How well I remember the friendship Mary had with Pete Seeger before they each joined the heavenly choirs. Mary brought to early childhood what Pete offered to the world - a sense of purpose as well as jollity in their music. Pete inspired Mary to focus her Wash-A-Day album on lifting the everyday and mundane tasks of life to a higher and more joyful plane. Teachers and families continue to feel the refreshment of Mary's work songs to this day."
- Cynthia Aldinger, Executive Director of LifeWays North America and author of "Life is the Curriculum"

"Parents and teachers have a wonderful tool for developing language, play and movement in the Singing with Children Series. This newest volume brings music to many activities during the day. The power of music awakens and helps coordinate the mind, body and emotions of children. Enjoy and enhance your world with music today!"
- Don Campbell, author of "Rhythms of Learning" and "The Mozart Effect for Children"

"Ms. Schunemann does a service to America's rich tradition of song in general and work-singing in particular with her 'This is the Way We Wash-A-Day' songbook by making this charming and novel effort to bring that tradition to its most important inheritors: our young children"
- Anna Lomax Chairetakis, Ph.D, Director Alan Lomax Archive
