Album Notes
Mary Vanorny is an Irish fiddler living in Minnesota. Growing up with a healthy balance of Cape Breton music and being classically trained, she went on to tour internationally with orchestras and Celtic bands, eventually visiting Ireland and discovering the world of traditional Irish music.

Since then, Mary has performed with many groups based in the Twin Cities, including The Back Porch Band, which released its trio album, The Road We Traveled, in 2003, and currently with Brass Lassie, Twin Cities Ceili Band, and as a duo with Ryan Johnson. Mary also performs regularly with Norah Rendell and Brian Miller as the Two Tap Trio.

Mary's commitment to continue learning the music has landed her opportunities to take many master classes and workshops, and also study extensively with premier Irish-American fiddler Brian Conway. Through Brian, Mary was introduced and taught the subtleties of Sligo fiddling, which has heavily influenced her playing style.

The First Light of Day is Mary's first solo fiddle album and offers 14 tracks of Traditional Irish Music on fiddle with piano accompaniment by Ryan Johnson. The album also features Chad McAnally (Irish harp) and Matt Wehling (mandolin).

Pinto fo Irish in Wrightwood
Greetings from your newest and biggest fan in the High Desert (Apple valley CA) ! I just got back from the Pint of Irish Camp in Wrightwood and have been listening to your CD for the last several hours. It is wonderfully inspiring, and will always bring back happy memories of our time at camp. I especially loved "Fanny Power" with you and "Miss Claire" on twin fiddles. I wish we could have played that tune at camp; I have a special arrangement on my 12-string guitar that I am sure we could have enjoyed. Maybe next year ?? With Warm Regards, Mike Johnston
