Album Notes

Is a song originally titled “Love Song” that I wrote in 1963. It was recorded under that title by The Christy Minstrels in 1963 & by Rod McKuen in 1964 & also Nana Mouskouri in (4) different languages.

I changed the title “Love Song” to “Wanderlove” in 1967. Arrangement wise it went through several concept versions. I recorded it & released it in 1968 on my first Warner Bros. album, The Mason Williams Phonograph Record. Some of the subsequent artists to record it were: Claudine Longet, Ester & Abi O’Farim, Dick Smothers & The Sand Pipers (in Spanish), “Canciónes de Amor”.

Claudine Longet’s recording of the tune was released as a single and topped the charts in Singapore, China. It was also on the soundtrack of Robert Evans film, “The Kid Stays in the Picture”.

The new version has a couple of lyric changes I made in 1986, (one line in the first verse & one line in the last). This is a final definitive lyric & arrangement for me. I play a folk / classical hybrid arrangement on the guitar for the verses. The instrumental section is classical guitar. My singing is the way I was singing in 2014.

The midi strings arrangement by Art Maddox adds a symphonic dimension to the soundscape. The bandoneon was a surprise gift from Craig Einhorn. He had Gabriel Rivano from Buenos Aires record takes to my tracks & we sorted out the part for him. It adds a unique character by putting it in an Argentine context.
