ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Rei Mastrogiovanni, a Japanese-American musician based in Tokyo, has dedicated his career to creating new fusions of ska music.

His younger brother Ken was only three when he began attending Rei's ska shows. After Rei moved to Tokyo in 2005 to pursue a solo career, Ken pursued his musical interests and academic studies in their hometown of Eugene, Oregon.

Over the past 10 years Rei established himself as a innovator of ska, while Ken became an important member of the Eugene music community, actively performing in various groups and genres.

In this self-titled EP, the respective ska and jazz paths of the Mastrogiovanni brothers crossed for the first time.

The brothers are joined by an all-star lineup of Pacific Northwest musicians: Tony Glausi (trumpet), Josh Hettwer (tenor sax), Sam Dale (trombone), Torrey Newhart (piano), and Luke Broadbent (guitar), with Rei on bass and Ken on drums.

This recording is a traditional jazz approach to ska music.

The album artwork is a painting by their oldest brother, Ryo, an artist with a lifetime interest in jazz music.
