Album Notes
Matt Falker is known as a vocalist, pianist, arranger, clinician, and educator. Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, Matt can be found performing in clubs and at festivals, both as a solo artist and with his jazz vocal quartet 'True North'.

Matt is a trained musician in both voice and piano. Yet his music seeks to avoid being any kind of admiration of technique or a formal presentation of overly cerebral music. Rather, any skills or talents displayed in performance actually have the goal of freeing the listener from having to work to understand the music…just sit back and experience the journey!

With over 25 musicians contributing, this project is more about a collective interplay of voices and sounds then a solitary spotlight on an artist. You are implored to enjoy the depth of the lyrics, the communication between the participants, and the different flavors of individual expression that appear on this record. This record does not subscribe to a narrow and confining definition of jazz, as evidenced by the presence of a Stevie Wonder tune…Latin and Brazilian flavors…and even a hymn that lives in the intersection of jazz, soul, and gospel pioneered by a cappella ensemble Take 6.

Matt is also a prominent jazz choir arranger, and his arrangements are published with Sound Music Publications ( as well as with his own publishing company, Matfal Music ( His charts have been performed by numerous All-State Choirs around the country and by high school, collegiate, and professional vocal jazz groups as well. Matt teaches at MiraCosta College, where he is founder and director of the Oceanside Jazz Festival ( Through this arena, he and his jazz choir have collaborated and performed with jazz artists such as Gretchen Parlato, Kim Nazarian, Karrin Allyson, Kate Reid, and groups such as m-pact, Groove For Thought, Sixth Wave.
