Album Notes
If you’re of the opinion, like so many Americans, that the United States is headed in the wrong direction, and that both political parties are to blame, singer/songwriter Matt Fitzgibbons and his website PatriotMusic.com believes he has the answer.

“It’s been over 40 years since the public has been involved in creating a Constitutional Amendment and that’s too long. Our system was designed with the hope that every generation would participate. One vote every couple of years is not enough”, he says.

In the summer of 2003, Matt Fitzgibbons wrote a song entitled “Well-Earned”, which tells the story of the American Revolution and the origin of individual rights. In the beginning of 2005, he merged his passion for America’s founding principles with his life-long love of writing music and PatriotMusic.com was born.

“Back then, musicians were not talking about Liberty or the core ideas our Republic was founded on, and the response I received including letters, emails, and increasing interviews told me people wanted more”.

After releasing “Patriot” in 2005, which Fitzgibbons wrote, recorded, produced, and released independently, he received his first ASCAP award and received excellent reviews both regionally and nationally for its thought-provoking lyrics and his simple, non-partisan message to inspire Americans to take a few minutes to read the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights for themselves.

In 2006 on Veterans’ Day, he released another CD, entitled “Patriot 2: A Celebration of Liberty”. Again, Fitzgibbons wrote, recorded, produced, and released the CD independently and received his second ASCAP award. His song, “Freedom”, was used in a historical documentary about the Second Amendment (The Gang). He continued furthering his message through airplay, interviews and his website, which by then was getting over 30,000 unique visitors per month.

“It's super! It sounds terrific!” Tom Monahan Connecticut Newsmakers, NBC 30

“I think we ought to spread the word... (His music is) really good and it does say something.” Sally Jessy Raphaël

This year, for Memorial Day, Fitzgibbons is releasing a new song called “They Can’t Take That Away From You” for free on his website. It’s one of 12 songs from his new CD, which he plans to release this summer.

This time, Fitzgibbons says, he’s working with world class artists (Rich Roger- guitar; Vinnie Bockius- bass, and engineer A.J. Sorenson). “It’s the only way to reach young people who are accustomed to having more songs on their MP3 players than they’ve even heard”.”With the highest-quality music possible, that’s truly free, my goal is that younger people will start thinking about what they can do to fix the mess we’re in”.

Born in Meriden, CT in 1967, Matt began playing real drums when he was 5, but his family remembers how when he was two, he used to set up all the waste paper cans upside-down so he could play them with Lincoln Logs. By 16 he had written many songs on piano, and by 18, he had added guitar and vocals to a growing list of interests which included reading every philosophy book he could find. After receiving his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Connecticut, he lived in Japan for two years and continued playing live and writing. When he returned to the U.S., he taught multinational students in Manhattan and began thinking deeply about what defines Americans.

“ I realized from all of my international students that while the U.S. is composed of cultures from throughout the world, what distinguishes us are the simple, but timeless principles of liberty in our founding documents. They were the answer then, and they are today because they have the tools necessary for every generation to make our Republic their own. We’ve simply forgotten this”.

Review: Dale Jone, Program Director, WZBG FM, CT
"The variety at which (Matt Fitzgibbons) can approach the music is impressive. (He’s) able to do melodic and poetic, and then something that’s a little like a sharp stick to the eye. Most musicians do one thing. It’s impressive that he can do so many."

Jack Coraggio, Litchfield County Times, CT

"The record has an overall earthy tone, and shines as a modern school of rock for the masses. And it is quite bridging; a track like “Different in your Eyes” takes a John Mellencamp-style Americana love story but makes the happy couple decidedly liberal and conservative."

"In addition to the tasteful, tuneful and infinitely listenable tracks I've come to expect, "Entitled" had some downright tasty surprises.

Great CD!
This is excellent new music, very different and original with lyrics that are second to none. I pretty much like all the tracks but the standouts for me are "My Old House, Whiskey, Winter Sky and Different in Your Eyes".

Talent That Provokes AND Entertains!
Very few songwriters can successfully produce one album with a "theme" running through it without stretching the listener's imagination and tolerance to breaking point. Matt Fitzgibbon's new release "Entitled" is his third within the US patriot theme and I still find myself not only learning about the foundation, constitution, history and psyche of this country but being challenged to educate myself further and develop as a citizen. All the while, thoroughly enjoying the music and production of this master songwriter. My favorites are "The Rain's Coming" (can not stop myself singing this EVERY time I shower!!!) and "Whiskey." Buy it! Get it! Listen! Learn and love!

Some good songs here
All in all a nicely produced budget indie release. Some good songs, "The Rain's Coming" being the best of the bunch. For an album claiming to fly the flag of liberty and individual rights I was rather surprised not to find any songs calling for racial harmony, particularly between black and white America. Well balanced, if a little over compressed, but all up quite an enjoyable listen.
