Album Notes
Reviewers are calling Matthew Peterson's award-winning and best-selling young adult novel a "Harry Potter meets Star Wars!"

Twelve-year-old earthling, Simon Kent, stumbles upon a secret that thrusts him into a bizarre adventure filled with magic, technology and deadly out-of-this-world creatures. He discovers a true friend, confronts his inner demons and becomes the savior to a peculiar race of people, when all he truly wants is to find his way back home.

Parallel to Simon's adventures is a mystery involving a catlike spy and a magical swordsman who both struggle to maintain peace among the paraworlds. But evil lurks in unexpected places, and few people can be trusted. Their paths ultimately lead them to Simon: the one boy who might be able to prevent the biggest assassination attempt in the known paraverse.

Reviews of Paraworld Zero:

"...stirring audio adaptation that the whole family can enjoy, perfect for long car trips. Highly recommended."
– Midwest Book Review

"Mr. Peterson has begun what looks like could become the next big young adult series. I was spellbound from the very beginning. I loved how someone [as] average as Simon turned out to be more than anyone could ever imagine."
– Fallen Angel Reviews (Recommended Read)

"For a first time novelist Peterson shows a good grasp of what makes a book exciting, injecting his novel with a cracking pace, endearing characters - and the story's breakneck climax is well worth the wait... I wouldn’t be surprised if the book wasn't optioned for a film sometime in the future... well worth buying..."
– Sci-fi Online

"Its rollicking adventure style reminds this reader of a cross between Harry Potter's adventures and those of Artemis Fowl. Colorful characters, fast-paced adventure, and clever humor make this an interesting read."
– Teens Read Too

"...I greatly enjoyed the story... a must read for anyone who loves fantasy and for anyone who loves a good adventure/coming-of-age novel."
– Flamingnet TOP CHOICE Award

"The story follows young Simon Kent, an orphan and a victim of bullies, as he is suddenly catapulted into a series of adventures by an encounter with a young student of magic."
– School Library Journal

"...tale of magic, mayhem, and maturation... action packed... A reasonable blend of science fiction and fantasy, Simon's adventures should appeal to middle schoolers..."

"...murderous villains, mighty warriors, goddess-like women, impossible problems and some of the wildest chases since the Keystone Kops. More fun than a barrel of computer games. Read it. Trust me, you’ll have a terrific time on that borderland."
– Douglas Hill (bestselling author of nearly 70 books)

"Flame throwing pigeons and demonic dumpsters. Funny and imaginative."
– Maria V. Snyder (New York Times bestselling author of Poison Study)

Loved it!
I found this book by accident and fell in love with the story and characters. My children have listened to it several times. I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment. The narration is smooth and the story is filled with impressive creativity, and the ending is simply divine. It might be too intense for smaller children, but if they are mature enough to read Harry Potter and Eragon, then they could also read Paraworld Zero. Don't miss this one.

This One's a Hit
I think this is the type of audiobook you either love or dismiss, depending on your personality and age. I know the intended audience (ages 8 - 16) will love it. For me as an adult, I absolutely loved it as well. But that's because I enjoy a good story with interesting characters. This is not a serious book, though there are a couple of serious moments. The mystery in Paraworld Zero was just enough to keep me guessing. I wish there was a little more romance, but the characters are fairly young (12 through 14), so I understand why the romantic aspects were watered down. There better be more romance in the sequel! I was hoping to see Simon at the magical school, but as it turns out, that'll be in the next book. I'm looking forward to it. Highly recommended.

As for the narration, I actually enjoyed the funny and peculiar voices. They were well done and kept me entertained. The prolog is awfully serious, but it lightens up considerably after that. Highly recommended.
