Album Notes
Matthijs Rührup, a Dutch musician with Danish roots, got his first close encounter with a musical instrument at age 8 when his father purchased an old pianola. Impressed, mesmerized an inspired by the wonderful music the paper pianola rolls produced when operating the foot pedals that drove a complicated tubular air pressure system, he envisioned how cool it must be to play and write music himself. Soon (classical) piano lessons followed and later also string instruments such as the guitar, banjo and mandolin.

Nowadays Matthijs is a music graduate and working as a music educator in The Hague, Holland. In addition to being a passionate teacher, Matthijs is also a performing musician playing mainly guitar and mandolin. Apart from teaching the piano, guitar and mandolin he also focuses on writing, arranging and recording music, resulting in the release of his CD "Guitar Tranquility" featuring 5 classical, 2 original and 7 self-written arrangements of folk-inspired tunes on the classical guitar.
