Album Notes
In the decade or so since his arrival on New York’s downtown scene, Matt has recorded with William Parker, Sabir Mateen, Daniel Carter and Steve Swell, to name but a few. 2007 saw the release of Spiritual Power, a trio date led by Matt with bassist Hilliard Greene and drummer Mike ‘TA’ Thompson on the Swedish label Silkheart and a solo record, Cuica In The Third House. Following on those and 2006’s War Rug on KMB Jazz (recorded with the collective Eye Contact, comprised of Lavelle, drummer Ryan Sawyer and bassist Matt Heyner), Lavelle has re-introduced his Morcilla Quartet, featuring pianist Chris Forbes (Daniel Carter), bassist Francois Grillot (Steve Swell, Michael Marcus) and percussionist Andre Martinez (Cecil Taylor, Earth People).

With the Manifestation Drama, Lavelle's third release for KMB, Morcilla adventurously blends Latin rhythms and the melodic sensibilities of Ornette Coleman, (Matt's teacher) into a wide-open and swinging vista of subtly gorgeous modern jazz.
