Coffeehouse Fame

by Matt Riley

This is music you're used to hearing yet it still remains unpredictable and fresh. The melodies are clear, catchy, and fun. The chord progressions are unique. The lyrics are deep, insightful, playful, sarcastic, clever, and always sincere.

Album Notes
As the son of a preacher man, a native Texan, and the butt of most jokes, Matt Riley shows no signs of difficulty when put to the task of sharing his honest song with an attentive ear. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the vivid landscape of shimmering chords and haunting vocal harmonies painted by this young songster devalues any vocabulary that attempts description...in other words, seeing is believing.

Matt sets himself apart from the staple of generic pop artists and other singer/songwriters with a unique sound, down to Earth lyrics, and an awkwardly charismatic personality. With a steadily growing fanbase, a work ethic that puts ants to shame, a sense of humor and an unnatural talent that can only be described as God-given, Matt aims to give music...real music...to the world using the gifts he's been given.

The introspective artist describes his earlier years as, "kind of a bittersweet. Our family moved around a lot, so I never had a steady group of friends for any significant amount of time. As a result, I just sort of turned inward by high school." In the later half of his teen years, Matt began using music as an outlet...but later, it developed into a calling. "I had played piano and sang since childhood, but I took up guitar and serious songwriting at 16. After I had written a song called 'Nothing Left' I felt that was God calling me to be a Christian who writes songs, but not necessarily a Christian-genre songwriter. I've been doing it ever since." When asked what his message was, Matt responded with three simple words: "there is hope. Our lives and experiences dictate that there's a lot of pain and suffering out there...but I want to get across that there's also hope and that it's found in knowing Jesus Christ."

With the album "Coffeehouse Fame", Matt Riley continues to not only promise inventive new ways to create orginal music, but delivers on that promise with each genuinely moving performance. This fresh, dynamic songwriter has a bright future, a mischevious grin, and a very captive audience.

Very well done and simply amazing
I have loved Matt's music since the first time I heard it, and this his CD is just all around amazing and completely blows my mind. He put so much time, effort, and love not only into making the CD, but also into the music on it...and it definately shows. If you liked what you heard here or on his MySpace site, you will love this CD even more and should definately buy it. I promise that you will absolutely love it.
