Album Notes
Born in the sunny foothills of Northern California, music was always a big presence in Matt Rodela's life. Matt started taking piano and trumpet lessons in elementary school. These lessons ignited the fire of the musical passion that would continue on throughout his life. In junior high and high school this love affair with music was focused primarily on the trumpet. During this time, Matt played with several honor bands at the county, state, and regional levels. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army as a full-time trumpet player.

Matt’s military experience had a profoundly positive impact on his musical talents. Not only did it boost his confidence as a performer, but it broadened his horizons by exposing him to a wide range of musical styles and cultures. Matt finished his enlistment in the Army, but continues to serve his country part time in the 229th National Guard Band and Matt continues to look for collaborative opportunities whenever he can.

Now living in Germantown, MD, Matt's talents as an entertainer have come full circle. In 2010 he released his debut full-length album "Insert Coin". This collection of original songs highlights Matt's talents as a songwriter, musical arranger, and performer on acoustic guitar, trumpet, and vocals. On the disc he's joined by many of the DC area's finest musicians to provide a rich tapestry of contemporary horn rock with a dash of jazz and funk. With Insert Coin, Matt is only getting started on his musical journey. The best is yet to come...

Great Adult Contemporary Rock
This is cd is full of upbeat, sophisticated music. The lyrics are thoughtful. The music is full of catchy rhythms and expertly mixes a variey of instruments including guitar, trumpet, and saxophone. I enjoyed all of the songs, but for those of you looking for an upbeat positive and dancable song, I suggest trying Top of the World. Finally a CD of creative music not written for tweens!!! I highly recommend you check Matt Rodela's music out!

A New Jazzman in Town
Matt Rodela's debut album, Insert Coin is a must have not just for lovers of the independent genre, but for connoisseurs of jazz! Like so many musicians before him, Matt seems to take inspiration from the people and places that have touched his life. However, what sets him apart from others is the manner in which his songs are constructed. Matt Rodela is clearly someone who is unafraid to think outside of the box, as evidenced by songs such as "SWM"- an homage to the hopeful and sometimes embarrassing world of online dating, or "Top Of The World"- loosely inspired by a ride on an airplane, but is in fact a clever commentary on optimism and the importance of keeping your problems in prospective. But, perhaps the most intriguing, (in my opinion at least) is "Rain Song"-a simple song about being caught in a downpour during an afternoon jog, yet still manages to have a poetic, meaningful quality partly due to the gentle background vocals of Daisy Eun and Eunhee Cho.
Which isn't to say that unusual song metaphors are the only selling points of Insert Coin. Each track is a gem in its own way, however what may also strike listeners is the range of musical talent represented. While he is fairly new to the music industry, the instrumentality on this album suggest that Matt is a seasoned pro. His skills as a vocalist and guitarist are pleasant and always entertaining throughout the album, his abilities as a trumpeter are truly stellar. A strong and confident artist individually, Matt worked with several local musicians, each of whom contributed to rounding out the unique feel of Insert Coin. While it is insanity to mention these 10 individuals by name, it is safe to say that the listeners will not be disappointed by their efforts. All in all, this is an smart, fun, and quirky debut that listeners will come back to over and over again.

Worth your time.....
Good first album. Enjoyable combination of vocals and instrumentals. My favorite is "Halfway There." Funny when I find myself singing along with the chorus....da de da, da de da.
