ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Max Redding grew up lower middle class in a little town called Vienna about 10 miles west of Washington, DC in Fairfax County, Virginia. He has lived in Virginia most of his life, and has had a deep passion for music since he first picked up a guitar at age 11. Redding spent his teens playing bass in post hardcore bands with class mates at his high school, and not long after graduating, formed a thrash/groove metal band called Croatoan. After releasing 2 full length records and spending most of his 20's with the band, Redding decided to split Croatoan up. "I've been hoping to incorporate other sounds and influences into the music I would like to make. I was raised on all kinds of music – Classic country, Americana, classic rock, hard rock, punk, bluegrass, even a little hip hop and rap, funk, soul, blues – you name it, it got a turn on the turntable or cd player in my house. I have been trying to steer my sound towards a more roots/Americana centered sound but I will never be able to shake my love for 90’s alt rock like the Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, The Wallflowers, etc. 'River City Queen' is my first attempt at solo song writing, and I feel like it's a nice little marriage of some of these sounds."

The Dogwood Gospel has plans to record and release their first full length record, tentatively titled "Cassina," by autumn 2018.

The band's first single "River City Queen" was recorded in a frontier cabin built in 1820 deep in the woods of Furnace Mountain, Virginia, and was rented and outfitted for the purpose of recording their debut record.
