ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A refreshing break from the Nashville bluegrass sound, Mississippi’s Mayhem String Band captures their fervent live intensity on their second album, aptly titled Land Pirates. Tales of the road, racket, and redemption are cast into a new territory that skillfully blends the old-school with the new.

This much-awaited release delivers a burning set of 11 tightly packed songs from one of the most heavily touring young string bands in the country. Land Pirates runs the gamut of American roots music by seamlessly absorbing the blues, jug-band, and Cajun influences into the band‘s own inventive songwriting. This brand of outlaw bluegrass is a perfect fit for producer Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) who does a fine job capturing the Mississippi grit. The album also benefits from guest fiddle player Ferd Moyse (Hackensaw Boys) and some piano and slide work from Mathus.
