ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Twenty-two year old singer/songwriter Megan McCallon shares an eclectic blend of acoustic rock with an intimate draw that invites her audience to listen closely and participate. Driven by her rich, soulful voice and skillful guitar, Megan’s songs tell honest, relevant stories of life and love with a positive sound and a “can’t get it off your mind” kind of melody. Influences of blues, rock, americana and the classics weave their way through her music, subtly threaded with spiritual undertones. Hard to compare in terms of style, her intimate yet up-beat songs come closest to Sheryl Crow or John Mayer.

After Megan won Baylor University’s inaugural Baylor Icon contest in the fall of 2002, her friend Chris Pearson, lead singer for Geffen Records act Barefoot, convinced her to record a CD. Chris introduced her to Clay Jones, Barefoot’s lead guitarist, who became the producer of her debut recording. Entitled Missing Piece, the CD was released in the fall of 2003 and features songs written and sung by Megan, with Clay playing electric guitar, mandolin, classical guitar, accordion and keyboards. Barefoot’s Jason Dering, Matt Fellenbaum and Chris Munselle add other key instrumentation to the CD as well. Subsequently, the CD has been remixed and updated with the addition of a new song, Letters, and was released in the summer of 2004.

Music includes the title song, Missing Piece, and Is It You, songs that contemplate the search for love. The newest song, Letters, speaks of false hopes and frustration with “words that unraveled my heart, now just tie me in knots cause that’s all that they were.” Megan’s experience teaching guitar at a music academy in Mexico translates into Latin Blues, a song featured at Baylor’s AfterDark show. Cinderella is a picturesque story about a young girl’s first dance, and Just Hold On is a promise of friendship…“just hold onto my hand and I will walk through the rain with you”, written for a childhood friend going through difficult days. Also included is Just To Be, an upbeat portrayal of prayer, and The Answer, probing the heart’s deepest longings, asking “don’t you want something more than this?” The final piece, called Show Me The Way, tells of a quest for direction at the first fork in the road of life.

A native of Paducah, Kentucky, Megan is passionate about her music. “I’ve always written songs,” she says. “Whenever I get frustrated or emotionally drained, it helps if I write my feelings down. I either sing or scream about it; usually, I sing.” During her first 3 years at Baylor, she assisted Ryan Richardson in leading Chapel every week for some 3,000 students, participated in Baylor’s AfterDark show, and was featured at the University’s welcome week for incoming freshman. Megan plays occasionally at Common Grounds coffeehouse off-campus as well as the university’s Acoustic Café. Megan has also played The Aardvark and Insomnia in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well as Momo’s in Austin, Texas while attending Baylor. She landed an internship at the Warner Music Group’s WEA Distribution Company in New York City this past fall where she worked in the college music department.
