ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Love & Learn is an exciting new CD from Janet McGarry. It marks the 7th recording by our reigning Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year, a title Janet has held for the past four years, in addition to several other awards and nominations she has received for her music.

Love & Learn shows a new side of Janet as she branches out musically and explores new sounds, but the essential elements stay the same. It keeps the qualities that make her albums recognizable, as when you hear her music played on the radio, immediately you can pick out her honest and true voice.

The album kicks off with a great up-tempo song penned by Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards called “No Expectations”, a rare bluegrass feat. The album flows with a common thread of “hurtin’, kinda love-gone-bad” songs with a “your love is gone, but you know I’m doing alright” theme, to collections of deep songs that tug at the heart strings and are sung for the soul of the listener, particularly an original song penned by new band mate Ryan Roberts called “Nobody Home”. There are also original songs handed to Janet which were written by Tom T & Dixie Hall and Louisa Branscomb in particular who wrote the Alison Krauss classic “Steel Rails”.

This album was produced by Serge Bernard, who also handled much of the instrumentation and harmony vocals. Also joining them on this project is Troy Engle, from Nashville, TN. Troy became a great acquaintance and collaborator whom Janet first met at the International Bluegrass Music Awards & Convention as he had co-written the very first song she received from Tom T. & Dixie Hall “Lord it’s a Hard Road Home” recorded on her all-Gospel project. “Not only is Troy a great songwriter but as you will appreciate, he provided absolutely fabulous takes on our songs. Talented at virtually any instrument with strings, Troy possesses a natural and rare instinct enabling him to listen to a song, pick up his instrument and play so skillfully and soulfully what it needs...with feel to spare. Roxeen & Ryan also contributed great vocals to this project along with our dear friends Kim Albert & Alan MacRae.”

Janet will be performing throughout the Maritimes during another busy summer season with her new band “Wildwood”. Along with her husband Serge on banjo, and the husband and wife team of Roxeen & Ryan Roberts on bass and guitar respectively from Wolfville, NS, they have a full schedule playing the Maritime Bluegrass Festival Circuit with no less than eleven festivals, plus other engagements throughout the region. They appreciate their fans and look forward to each new gathering with them. For a full listing of performance dates, check out www.janetmcgarry.com.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ...

“Janet McGarry has a sound that any grasser would be proud of. Her vocals have a timeless quality that represents true traditional Bluegrass music. She is without a doubt an undiscovered treasure here in the U.S. I'm looking forward to future releases from this tremendous performer.” Carson Payne WHAY 98.3 FM http://www.hay98.com "Bluegrass Happenin'" and "Bluegrass Gospel Happenin'" http://www.appalachianchild.com

“... Janet's voice is uniquely her own while evoking classic sounds of Molly O'Day and Hazel Dickens. “He Will Bring You Home” has a lot of variety while staying grounded in good down to earth bluegrass gospel. A bonus is the title tune penned by Janet and her husband Serge Bernard....” Arthur Berman, Pacific Pickin' CITR 101.9FM, Vancouver, BC, Canada

"...as soon as I heard the first minute, I remarked ....... how much your voice reminds me of the legendary Rose Maddox..."Reg Pitt, Southam FM, Victoria, Australia

Janet performs with a super dose of emotion and dedication. We're gonna love her and her music from this day on..." Country Ted Clark, Swalmen, The Netherlands

"... I love this mixture of gospel and bluegrass music ..." Linda A. Rose, "Shades of Country" Show, Cheshire, England.
