ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
NEW CD SIGNAL HEIGHTS NOW HERE ON CD BABY!! (2009)
(also Brandon McGovern & the Scrappers CD "Pet Food" now here on CDBaby!!!! (2006)

"Bowling Alleys, BBQ Joints, & Billiard Halls"...(2005)
Brandon McGovern & the Scrappers 1st CD release recorded out of Tulsa, OK. this mainly trio group
worships the super-group hey-days of the late 60's and early 70's and purveys or "carrys the torch" for album-rock groups that wrote, performed, and recorded their own music.
on "Bowling alleys, BBQ joints, and Billiard Halls", McGovern and company mix country-rock, piano driven boogie,
and southern melody pop songs (i.e. Big Star, Dwight Twilley Band) to give a perfect blend of sounds sure to please. also check out Brandon McGovern's 1st release on CD baby. a minimalistic folk-rock-pop album entitled "pala-dora".
the group is mainly comprised of Brandon McGovern (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Dave White (bass, vocals, guitar, piano),& Bill Padgett (drums, vocals, piano). many special guests appear on "bowling alleys....", Bill Pitcock IV (Dwight Twilley band), Neil Dirickson (Nude Furniture), Kevin Wright (pedal steel)and Sean Standingbear (a hip osage native american with the meanest of slide guitar). also check out the covers of Dwight Twilley's "you were so warm" and a raucous version of T-Rex's "lean woman blues".
for more in depth info about the band and their history
check out www.thescrappers.com.
McGovern & the "Scrappers" have released their 3rd album
"Pet Food" NOW HERE ON CDBaby......

the newest CD recordings are reminiscent of the obvious Beatles/Badfinger/Big-Star/Dwight Twilley Band connection mixed in with a return to some folksier acoustic work and a tendency to really rock with tunes ala NRBQ or Chuck Berry.

Loud Sweet Pop Fun!
I Love the rawness of the sounds and the songs. On one hand, you've got simplistic rock and yet underneath you've got a sweetness that keeps you listening. :)

very entertaining
love the way the songs intertwine. it seems that every song has it's place and purpose. i really like the occasional piano use. 'reality always wins' is my favorite. sounds like some jazzy new orleans thing with a rock and roll edge. also really enjoyed 'an angel'. that's a very happy well done song. peace.

I Love to Boogie (too)
I found these guys searching for obscure T-Rex Covers.
I found so much more. Lean Woman Blues with Pedal Steel guitar!!! I've never heard a better cover. Boogie piano, Crunchy guitars, jangly guitars, slide guitars, sweet vocals, Melody out the wazoo. I just don't understand the music biz. This is great stuff.

welcome to the southern beatles
interesting! i found this through the beatles-pop section.
one different thing about this sound? what if the beatles had been from southern america? that's what this CD sounds like and makes it slightly unique. the beatles on whiskey and fried chicken.
