Album Notes
MCB's 5th cd is chock full of their trademark harmonies and world class musicianship. Add in their catchiest tunes ever and you have a masterful disc that gets better with every listen. Funk, Folk, Rock, Country, World Beat, Latin...MCB Five has it all.

The Michael Cleary Band has been performing for 20 years and their newest cd MCB Five is their finest yet. This disc is their first that is completely self produced and recorded in their own studio. Their efforts have resulted in a collection of songs described as an organic melting pot of great lyrics, catchy tunes, and sonic ear candy.
The listener gets taken on a rolling journey from the opening chimes of the infectious “Mind Made Up” to the pulsing funk of “When you get back” thru poignant reflection in “Barfly” followed by the uplifting charm of “Cool Down”.
Then, “You Got My Love” kicks in with an epic rock jam capped off with the Latin feel and tale of longing in “Away-O”. “Free James Brown” is the country flavored story of an unlikely fan of the Godfather of Soul, while “Highlight of My Day” is a toe-tapping celebration of the simpler things in life.
The album concludes with the epic “See You in The Morning”. A bombastic rocker based on the Heavens Gate UFO cult.
The music will draw you in but it’s the lyrics that will keep you coming back. Each repeat listening reveals a little more charm, subtle innuendos, witty turns of phrase, and glimpses of life, love, and adversity.
The songwriting shines as the star of this disc and its a reflection of a band that is musically mature, diverse and skilled at their craft. The quality of the recording is superb and MCB Five will surprise your ears with something new each time you listen to it.

The Michael Cleary Band is MIchael Cleary - Guitar/ Vocals, Vin Delaria - Keys/Vocals, Lee Sylvestre - Guitar/ Vocals, Jedd Chlebowski - Bass, Edmund Peart - Drums/Vocals, Frank Bauer - Percussion.

Box of Chocolates
The problem with Michael Cleary is that every time he puts out a new release, he leaves me wanting more. So, I'm always in a state of eagerly looking forward to the next collection. The group underwent a major personnel change a few years back after a 17 year run as one of Connecticut's most notable bands. The new lineup has resulted in what seems to me to be more of a group, and less of a vehicle for just one person. The members come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, and it comes through loud and clear on this CD. Maybe Michael should change his last name to Chameleon. It doesn't seem to matter what genre they play, they have the chops. When they play R&B, you think, man, this is a great R&B group. Then they suddenly go all Dr. John, or Jimmy Buffet, or Carlos Santana, or Steely Dan, with equal aplomb, and you think, THAT must be their core strength. Somehow, they embrace this incredible diversity, and still make it all one. They also manage to stay focused on well developed songs, with lyrics that are worth reading even without the music. This is not a band of competing players all fighting to steal the spotlight and shred. These are seasoned players who know how to make each other shine, and keep the delivery focused on the strong material. There is plenty of brilliant playing here... It just isn't thoughtlessly piled on like too much hot sauce. Big props on a CD with 10 tracks in multiple genres that sounds like it was supposed to go together. Momma used to say, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are gonna get." I have news for Momma... It's still all gonna be chocolate!

MCB Five--my favorite one of all
I have been following MCB for over 5 years. This newest cd is the best so far. All the songs are great, and the order they have them on the cd flow really well. I find myself playing the cd everyday to put me in a good mood, singing and dancing along. They are really talented and hope they just keep on going. I have all the cds, but if I had to have only one...this would be it....Buy it now!!

Blue-eyed soul, tropical breezes, great bass guitar and a touch of calypso. MCB's best yet. This CD should come with a voucher for a Cold Corona!!!

Great CD!
Strong songs and monster players make this an enjoyable cd. "You Got My Love" is an infectious rocker and "See You in The Morning" takes one on quite a trip! Those are balanced out by some catchy acoustic/pop tunes and there's even some country to boot! From the smooth "Cool Down" to the latin "Away-O" this enjoyable disc has something for everyone.

Still Burnin' Bright!
It seems like a lifetime ago I used to hear the Michael Cleary Band at a well known hotspot in Middletown, Connecticut. I've long since moved to another state. I was looking for some new music recently and did a search for them here on CD Baby, not expecting anything. Wow! I guess they haven't exactly been sitting on their hands all this time. I downloaded a copy of the newest album, and I was happily transported back to my youth. They still got it, and somehow, they seem to have avoided aging. It sounds fresh and got me revved right up. I'm going to have to get the previous releases too.
