ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hailing from Atlanta, GA, John McNicholas is a singer/songwriter that pulls the inspiration for his craft from real-life situations based on his personal experiences and the lives of his friends. The names are not always changed, so consider yourself nabbed if you should recgonize yourself in the songs. "Some of the catchiest and best-written guitar-pop to inexplicably not go national" (the Weekly Planet - Eric Snider) Live and in recordings John's songs can be as awkwardly personal as those by Juliana Hatfield, as tongue-in-cheek as those by Fountains of Wayne and Ben Folds and as vivid and descriptive as those by Pete Yorn and Dean Wareham (Luna). Over the Summer, John has just released a new record with Atlanta-based producer Russ Fowler (John Mayer, Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge, the Offspring).

Excellent songs and exuberant performances
Tampa Tribune - Local Discs Are All Over The Map
John McNicholas, "Silver" (jmcnicholas.com): McNicholas relocated to Atlanta last year but he's a frequent enough returnee that he's still considered a local. Big-deal producer Russ Fowler (John Mayer, Shawn Mullins) helmed this four-track album and gives it a brilliant sheen. But the excellent songs and exuberant performances are all McNicholas.

Confessional and emotive gems
Tampa Bay Times - John McNicholas - SIlver CD Release Party
Local boy done good John McNicholas does for rock 'n' roll what Jimmy Stewart did for Hollywood: He's the nice guy who finishes first. The singer-songwriter proves you don't have to be a snarly misanthrope to write songs that matter. McNicholas' confessional and emotive gems shine brighter than ever on Silver, his new CD producer by Atlanta-based Russ Fowler who has worked with John Mayer, Drivin' & Cryin', Shawn Mullins, Matthew Sweet and the Offspring

Weekly Planet - by Scott Harrell

Crisp, personable and innately infectious pop-rock tunes
He may be spending most of his time in Atlanta these days, but impeccable singer-songwriter John McNicholas will always be a St. Pete boy to us longtime scenesters, and he knows it. That's why John's coming back to town for a weekend's worth of shows, and kicking them off with this party celebrating his second solo EP of crisp, personable and innately infectious pop-rock tunes, Silver. (Longtime fans will be happy to know that the top-notch four-track CD includes both a new version of "Maria" and, finally, a studio recording of "No One Would Miss Us," along with two great newer tracks.) Tonight's gig features a full-band format, and support from like-minded local pop purveyors Brian Merrill (Barely Pink, The Threads) and Lance Rowland; in addition to this Globe shindig and tomorrow night's SMA to-do at The Garage, McNicholas will also play Viva La Frida's dog-friendly Yappy Hour on Sunday afternoon. (Globe Coffee Lounge, St. Petersburg)
