Album Notes
Justin McRoberts is a highly respected singer/songwriter who, over the past eight years, has carved out a niche for himself in the independent music scene. He is one of those rare artists who can blend artistry, honesty and humor almost seamlessly.

Justin says about his work, “Songwriting has served as a way to log the miles of my life and remember more clearly. My songs serve as benchmarks that help me keep some bearing as to where I am and, perhaps more importantly, where I’ve been. My hope in sharing my songs with others is that my story will help to shed some light on theirs.”

To date, Justin has released 5 full-length albums, and 3 EPs. The first 2 albums were released while with 5 Minute Walk Records from 1999-2001. Reason For Living (1999), is a collection of songs written during Justin’s years as a Young Life leader. Father (2000) is a more personal collection, dealing primarily with his father’s suicide in 1998 and the struggle to see the good in dark times.

Since 5 Minute Walk disbanded in 2001, Justin has recorded several independent studio projects. The Untitled EP (2001), a collection of songs written in spiritual devotion, is a simple recording that is intended to highlight the human side of religion, where life is not refined and faith does not come easy. Trust (2002) seeks to inspire believers to better understand the hearts and minds of those who do not recognize God in their world. Intersections (2003) explores the way we see the world around us; the desire and discipline to recognize eternal value in every moment, cutting through the utilitarian perspective we are so used to bringing to our everyday. Justin released Grace Must Wound... in 2005, his most recent full-length work. The album’s title is borrowed from author Flannery O’Connor, who wrote, in full; “Grace must wound before it heals.” The albums heart is to help listeners see the difference between Jesus and Christianity.

Since the release of Grace Must Wound (2005), Justin has provided listeners with two EPs – a collection of Christmas songs, and a 5-song EP highlighted by his version of Amazing Grace which features a breathtaking performance by The Lily Of The Valley Gospel Choir from Oakland, California.

Central to Justin’s work and ministry is his relationship with Compassion International; an organization which exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry, releasing children from spiritual, physical, economic and social poverty in the Name of Jesus.

Sharing his songs and stories with an audience is where Justin’s gifts are most fully realized. He maintains a full calendar of shows in the continental US and Western Europe. While his audiences can be quite diverse, from playing for congregates in a small rural church, to teenagers in the Czech Republic, most of Justin’s schedule is made up of appearances on college campuses and for young adults in the continental US.

Lastly, in his own words: “Being independent since ‘01 has granted me the opportunity to apply the principles of service I learned through Young Life and 5 Minute Walk Records to all aspects of my career. Because my wife Amy and I are involved with every facet of every partnership, we can live those principles out completely. I believe that my responsibility extends beyond “listeners”, to every promoter and tech; to any and all who are involved with a show, an album, a festival, etc… I am a communicator. Everything I do communicates a message. In light of this, I know that that who I am is far more important than what I do, and that the quality of my work is dictated by the quality of the person I am.”
