Album Notes
Debut CD from Megan Baer, singer-songwriter from Athens GA. Known around her community as a super-mom, concerned community member, master gardener, and good listener, Megan has managed to find time in the last 10 years to write and record this collection of songs.

The songs on Out Of Place tell a tale. They outline a journey through the twenty-something decade, when tough relationships and personal challenges leave behind life lessons and new beginnings. You will find no pretension here, just transmissions from the gut. Moods. Stories with lots of blanks for the listener to fill in.

Please enjoy and thanks for supporting CD BABY!

So Beautifull!
The music on "Out of Place" is a diverse collection of sincere feminine experience, and Megan Baer's radiant voice seems to just ride out and convey a wide spectrum of human emotion- this is a thoughtful, authentic, and artistically mature compilation. This is just so beautifull!

a gem
The musicianship is excellent, the moods range widely, and Megan's voice is superb. The lyrics are carefully crafted but not overwrought. Some tonal shades of Cowboy Junkies (but much more interesting), a young Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, and others. I'm looking forward to the next album!

Flagpole Magazine

"a seductive and luxuriant debut of great depth and warmth"
The first time I saw Megan Baer and her band play was at the 40 Watt in the spring of 2005, and even though all concerned had a heady touch of the “pollen,” I was still touched by Baer’s bittersweet vocals and the band's evocative and feisty country-folk musicality.

It’s taken this long to record and finish Out of Place, but it’s been worth the wait for an album that definitely serves to polish the memory of that initial impression while lifting a veil to reveal the many facets of Baer’s diverse vocal and songwriting talents. Across the 12 tracks, these bear some strong resemblance to Johnette Napolitano’s early work fronting Concrete Blonde, as well as warm hints of Neko Case, Beth Orton and Sarah McLachlan, with enchanting glimpses of Sinead O’Connor, Billie Holiday and Norah Jones.

Musically Baer and band, the backbone of which includes multi-instrumentalist and album producer Michael Wegner (Cosmic Charlie) and master timekeeper Seth Hendershot (Blueground Undergrass), also spread their wings from a base of country folk rock and invite in a healthy dose of traditional world grass, due, I’m sure in no small part, to the encouragement, friendship and musical input of Noel Beverley (Calliope Fair) and the oh-so-fine fiddling of Amanda Kapousouz (Tin Cup Prophette).

Out of Place is a coat of many autumnal colors, a seductive and luxuriant debut of great depth and warmth. It should add the vital element to many a smoky fireside or rain-soaked road trip.

Warm, real and lovely.
I've been listening to 'Out of Place' for several months and I like it more and more. Sometimes I listen to it two or three times in a row. Megan Baer has a very warm, beautiful voice with great versatility. Her voice tends to be in the lower ranges and is husky and languid, but on some songs (like 'Cover to Cover') it's more lilting and high like Joni Mitchell. I hear shades of Joni, Lucinda, Cowboy Junkies and even a little dash Cat Power or Portishead in there. I especially like 'Out of Place', 'Boyfriend', and 'Sucked Me Dry', which is a classic break-up song (You were looking for nothing/And I guess you thought you'd found her./But I was more than you could see/ and now good things are happening for me). These songs are coming from a strong, mature place.
