Album Notes
“Exquisite! I’m hooked!” J.D.
These Yoga /Meditation /Healing mantras, set to original melodies and sung by Megan Chaskey, feature Grammy Award-winning cellist, David Darling, whose style ranges from lyrical to jazzy (Brazilian, African influence) with Irish harp, guitar, piano, percussion and beautiful vocal harmonies by master musicians.
These mantras are medicine for the soul, the mind, the heart and the body. The album begins with the first track as an invocation to the Divine spark within, with Irish harp supporting the lyrical vocals.
The 2nd track (AARDAS BAHEE) sings of hope and prayers answered and the 4th track (AAPA SAHAEE HOA) clears negative energy and raises your consciousness to the experience of the “thousand-petal lotus” opening at the crown chakra. These two 12 minute meditation-long tracks are bridged by an exalting cello interlude.
From here, for the next four tracks, the masterful, jazzy sound of Darling on cello, plucked, strummed and bowed, at times like a jazz acoustic bass, along with superlative percussion by Mike Guglielmo, drive each mantra into dance rhythms.
HARAY GURAY, track 5, activates your creative spark, and by nourishing it, magnetizes abundance and Divine help and in this way helps you connect to your highest potential.
AJAI ALAI, track 6, of meditation length at 10-plus minutes, dispels depression, anger and sadness. It is said that if these emotions come over you, and you can find the space to repeat these syllables even once through, the cloud will begin to lift.
HAR(A), track 7, takes you to all-out dance-your-spirit music, as it transforms challenges into opportunities. How? It realigns your creative power center, your hara with the Divine center, the Source of all life force, to allow you to manifest the resources to co-create the life you were born to live.
WAHE GURU, track 8, means “the path from darkness to light” and works a wonderful counter-rhythm between the mantra vocals and the music.
Track 9 is a jazz ballad version of the HARAY GURAY mantra (as in track 5) but mellow, with piano, cello and smooth percussion.
And track 10, SAT NAM, excellent for deep relaxation, closes the album with vocal layering of Megan’s voice as in the style of Gregorian chant, to lift you on the wings of Naam to the higher realms.
All through these tracks the masterful arranging by Scott Petito gives the most exquisite experience of the power of music. Listen as well for his bass lines, his guitar work and his piano.

The RajMan Review
Vocalist Megan Chaskey arranges Eastern thought and meditation into engaging original melodies, creating an aura of peace and enlightenment that is refreshing both emotionally and intellectually.

In addition to Chaskey's mesmerizing voice, the CD features the lush sounds of Grammy Award-winner David Darling on cello, Mike Guglielmo on percussion, Aine Minogue on Celtic harp, Scott Petito on bass, guitar, percussion, and piano, and Beth Reineke and Leslie Ritter on vocals.

This is a fine representation of the increasingly popular melding of Eastern philosophies with Western music.

Megan Chaskey is a singer and composer who has created a masterful modern chant album. Naam Radiance, so-named because Chaskey teaches Naam Yoga Therapy classes, is structured like one of her yoga classes beginning with a prayerful chant, building in energy and tempo, filling in the middle of the session (album) with very powerful rhythmic percussive body-movement pieces, and ending with a couple of chill-down cool-out numbers.

Chaskey starts by following in tradition and singing the mantras in Sanskrit as they have been passed down for thousands of years. But she breaks from the past by composing new music to make the sound and experience more compatible for today’s audience. Then she brings in top-quality new age musicians -- cellist David Darling, guitarist and pianist Scott Petito, Celtic harpist Aine Minogue, percussionist Mike Guglielmo, and supporting vocalists Leslie Ritter and Beth Reineke.

The result is a perfect modern new age music album with hints of world-fusion, contemporary-classical and folk. Yes, this music would work perfectly as a backdrop to any yoga class, but it also could be used for massage therapy, healing and soul-searching, stress-reduction or relaxation, any light workout, or simply as a “go to” album for kicked-back listening pleasure. Be forewarned though, because you may find yourself singing along to these catchy chants.
